This isn’t really Elmo-related, but just a general example of how weird Twitter has gotten. Earlier tonight at UFC 299, Dustin Poirier scored a victory in a widely-anticipated match against Benoit Saint Denis. As a result of this fight and the hype for it, “Benoit” has been trending for the last few days. And because of the algorithm’s mumbo-jumbo, one of the “top tweets” that users would see when they clicked on the trend is a Tweet from all the way back in **2007** , to wit; > For those of you who are not wrestling fans, this tweet was posted, four days before the event, in anticipation of a match that was supposed to happen between CM Punk and Chris Benoit at WWE’s Night of Champions pay-per-view that weekend. Except that that match never happened because Chris Benoit no-showed the event, and was later found to have killed his wife and son before hanging himself due to severe CTE that had rendered his brain the functioning equivalent of an 85-year-old Alzheimer’s patient. So because of a UFC fighter, a guy nobody has ever heard of before (and who still posts on it today) is getting ruthlessly dragged in the comments of all his tweets because of an in-hindsight-unfortunate remark they made before most people had even _heard_ of this site. ---
