Not gonna lie, it’s actually kind of amazing that a rocket launch can cause a phenomenon like that and those pictures in the article are beautiful. It’s probably terrible for the environment, though. This is why we can’t have nice things. ---

Right. So in the game Warcraft III, which takes place just before WoW Vanilla, Arthas is a paladin and the heir to the throne of Lordaeron when it comes under attack by the undead. As the cult responsible starts spreading the undeath virus by tainting the grain supply being sent to the major cities, Arthas becomes increasingly fanatical in his quest to purge the land of the undead, which leads to him slaughtering the entire population of Stratholme, one of the kingdom’s largest cities, before they have a chance to fall victim to the plague. He then pursues the demon leading the undead to the arctic continent of Northrend, where he learns about an ancient runeblade named Frostmourne (the subject of the above picture) which can slay demons - but when he finds it, he discovers that it was forged by the Lich King who created the undeath virus in the first place, and by wielding it he winds up forfeiting his soul and becoming the Lich King’s champion himself, and after killing the demon, he takes control of its army and winds up massacring his own people (and later on winds up succeeding him as Lich King.) It’s basically the equivalent of putting an “I bought this before Elon went crazy” sticker on a Cybertruck, which was not released until well after Elon went full Nazi. (You might also note that this is essentially the same story as that of Elric of Melnibone, to whom post-Frostmourne Arthas bears quite the aesthetic similarity. I too knew nothing of the backstory but got the joke instantly. OTOH … I found the reader context note inexplicable and stupidly redundant, apparently saying nothing. To ignorant me it wasn’t chef’s kiss; it was hamhanded pointlessness. ---
