Musk and Trump are the modern apotheoses of the cliche where no amount of money or power will satisfy when there’s a bottomless black hole of emotional need in the center of one’s soul. It’s poignant when it’s in a movie or novel or TV show. But that poignancy vanishes and it’s nothing but endlessly terrible when these cow-eyed dipshits are stomping their big stupid feet all over the real world. ---

It has just come to my attention that Elmo’s name comes from a novel by Wernher von Braun (!) where the elected god-king of Mars is known as “the Elon” and now a lot of shit makes sense.
