Unless plans have changed since the Wizard 52 hint/spoiler sheet came out\*, they’re going to give her her own title (it didn’t mention if it was going to be ongoing or mini - although they’ve been very smart about starting with minis lately.).

- And they’ve been very mean about changing their plans when I make a comment about them a few months down the line!

> Interesting that Batwoman, the most obscure character and the only one of the above without her own title (you forgot Firestorm, the Manhattan Guardian, Mister Miracle, and Scandal and Knockout of the Secret Six), but is getting the most attention by far. Having the Bat connection counts for a lot, I guess.

I assume you are referring to Shilo Norman, the African-American Mister Miracle (and successor to Scott Free)? He’s an older character, who appeared in the late '80s/early '90s Mister Miracle series, and I believe goes back to the original series by Jack Kirby. All the others are recently-updated characters, but at least the “new” Mister Miracle has been around for a decade or two.

Is he the same Mister Miracle who is married to Barda or is that Scott?

Re: Cassie…
Damn…looks like they’re sure going “scorched earth” on _that_ character, doesn’t it?

Too bad…I _liked_ Cassie. And she had a bat costume (Comics Batman, and new Batwoman included, imho) that actually _did_ look scary but practical.
Scott Free is married to Barda.

American _josei yuri_? I’d go for it.

I remember Northstar coming out a long time ago. How many years has it taken women characters to catch up?

Well, this Batwoman is hardly the first lesbian character in comics, after _Gen 13_’s Sarah Rainmaker; Hazel and Foxglove from _Sandman_ and _Death: The Time of Your Life_; Detective Maggie Sawyer from _Superman_ comics; Renee Montoya from _Batman_, _Gotham Central_, and _52_; and even supervillainess girlfriends Scandal and Knockout from \*Villains United \* and _Secret Six_. Then of course you have Apollo and the Midnighter, the premiere gay couple in comics, in _The Authority_. This Batwoman thing is hardly newsworthy, nor is it some groundbreaking event.

And let us not forget Maggie Chascarrilla and Hopey Glass, comics’ most wonderful and enduring lesbian characters, from _Love and Rockets_, who predate this Batwoman by over two decades.

> The only thing suspect is that it’s taken them so goddamn long. They’re only making up for lost time. More power to them, I say.

Surely you haven’t forgotten the New Guardians?

I don’t have high expectations for Batwoman. I fear that Batman is going to give her nowhere near as hard a time as he should (and hey, wasn’t one of the reasons for getting rid of Batgirl supposed to be that DC thought Bat’s supporting cast was too big?).

Damn, does anyone know whether SDMB membership comes with monitor insurance? I’ve got Sunny D fruit punch all over mine after this comment. ☹
