Just making sure, Czarcasm, but you’re still not anti-gun, right?
If you would quit rolling those eyes, you might be able to see straight. I am not “anti-gun”. I am anti-NRA and the gun manufacturers that give it their marching orders. I am against the NRA making responsible gun owners(which I have been in the past and probably will be in the future) look like fanatics. Are you even capable of understanding the difference between “pro gun rights” and “pro NRA”?
I had a similar thought - though I doubt that the guns turned in are a market threat to the major manufacturers. More likely they are a threat to the old “ring of fire” companies who make the cheap crap.
Only issue I have ever had with the buybacks is that sometimes they get some antique / collector quality weapons that get destroyed. I think LA ran into that - little old ladies turned in WW1 and WW2 era firearms that were destroyed instead of going to a museum or collector. It would be nice to have an appraisal of the firearms and at least a category for some them to be saved.
Congratulations for realizing that. I was trying to be as obvious as possible. When you realize you are doing a more verbose version of the same I think you will truly be wiser.
If you are pro-gun rights you really, really suck at it.
You are pro-gun rights like Tucker Max is a virgin.
You admit you don’t own a gun. You admit you are anti-NRA and even admit you are anti-gun manufacturers. Every single thread that comes up about gun rights on this board has you squarely on the anti-gun side.
Just be honest with yourself. Insisting on something so obviously untrue is very odd.
Not necessarily, though I think buy-back programs were the method of confiscation in England. Czarcasm just interprets things and nitpicks these threads in ways consistent with how a gun grabber would. I just noticed he had a pit thread on that very topic so I thought I would point it out.
You don’t do “wise” very well. You’d best stick with your strengths-childish schoolyard tantrums and name calling.
It’s mostly sentimental value for WW1/WW2 era guns. There’s certainly no rarity or historical interest to most WW1 or WW2 era handguns and rifles.
There’s just too many of them floating around. What’s worse is that a lot of them are still common gun models today - like Colt 1911s and various captured German Rugers and Walthers. Beyond handguns, there’s no shortage of WW1 and WW2 era rifles. Lots of perfectly good M1s out and around.
Enough of them were maintained in good condition that it’s pretty easy to find one to shoot. If stored properly, they shoot just fine.
Unless there’s an interesting story associated with the piece, there’s no reason they can’t be destroyed with everything else.
ETA: I am a gun owner (and have a CHL to boot) and the use of the phrase “gun grabber” is an automatic “I’m a dumbass” sign.
So stop hijacking this thread and take your piss fest over to that thread, where I can have just as much fun with you and Debaser as I had with whoever started laugh-fest in the first place.
Why did you get rid of your guns? What kind of guns do you want to get?
I think having an gun antiques appraiser on hand would be a sign of good faith, and probably good public relations.
As I read this article, the NRA is planning on suing if the program violates the law and if not, trying to get the law changed.
Along the lines of my last post, let me propose an analogy:
Suppose the local police department parked a car in front of the local abortion clinic and had an officer hand out privately donated gift cards to girls who decided not to get abortions.
Suppose that Planned Parenthood announced that it was going file a lawsuit to stop this practice if it violates the law, and if it does not violate the law, try to get the law changed.
Would you have a problem with Planned Parenthood’s conduct?
And if not, how would such a situation be fundamentally any different from the situation with the NRA?
Uh Huh. Still didn’t bring up a supporting cit.
The other thread, please? This one isn’t about me, or your hang-ups about me.
Your analogy falters in that the police aren’t doing this in front of gun shops or the local NRA headquarters.
Nor you, I guess were both speculating.
Just making an observation. Sorry if others noticed it and it rings true enough to offend.
Yep. M1’s are great. I was thinking about buying one the other day.
Wait… What?
Yeah, Bob is a nice guy. Pleasure to be around. Let’s burn him at the stake along with all his friends.
I’m glad somebody is standing up for the rights of Gun-Americans.
Wow.
Yup.
Perhaps they have adopted an “If we can’t beat 'em, join 'em,” approach to “Living, Breathing Law.”
