Frances McDormand in [Laurel Canyon.](http://imdb.com/title/tt0298408/) It’s a jarring jump from a pregnant, small-town sheriff in [Fargo](http://imdb.com/title/tt0116282/) to an aging hippie who flashes the band when she isn’t spreading her legs. She’s a great actress to have that range, but don’t rent the movie just to see her tits. :eek: ---

Three leaped immediately to mind. The first two, already mentioned, were Julie Andrews and Kathy Bates. The third: Emma Thompson in _The Tall Guy_. (By the way, I just saw _About Schmidt_ this past weekend, and I wasn’t looking forward to the big nude scene because I feared it would be little more than gratuitous degradation of an actress for whom I have great respect, but I was relieved to see that the nudity was brief, well-staged and…well…I thought she looked just lovely.) ---

Marilu Henner in the Burt Reynolds film _The Man Who Loved Women_. One of Burt Reynolds’ best roles, IMO, and also starring the aforementioned Julie Andrews WITH clothes on. ---

I know a lot of people had to see _The Gift_ just to believe Katie Holmes really would be topless in it. Also Angie Harmon (of “Law in Order”)… but I didn’t think she’d do nudity. But her boobies are out briefly in the film _Lawn Dogs_. I suppose since I was used to seeing these actresses mainly on network TV, that’s what made it a surprising - its not like either one had anything to be ashamed of. ## Anyway, these were relatively mild topless scenes. I wonder what would happen if a TV series actress, while under contract, did a film with some explicit naked grinding? Didn’t Lisa Bonet get booted from the “Cosby Show” for that reason? There is a site that has a pretty comprehensive databank of nude scene descriptions, with descriptions submitted on every such scene ever made. But I won’t link it because there are some softcore porno related pop ups and ads, in an otherwise purely text site. If you google [cndb.com](http://cndb.com) you’ll find it, but don’t do it unless you are safe to do so. ---

Word to the wise at work… Don’t do a search for “Jackie Swanson”, else you’ll find that it’s true what they say about French girls. Speaking of sitcom starlets, there are some recent topless shots of Justine Bateman, apparently from some cable series. Now I see what Skippy was all bunched up about. And one scene with Maura Tierney of Newsradio, although I forget which film. And not a nude scene per se, but Anne Hathaway appeared at some premiere in a very sheer black blouse. Mia Thermopolis, I hardly knew ye. ---

I just rented _The Piano_ at request of my fiancee, not knowing that both **Holly Hunter** and **Harvey Keitel** both get nekked as jaybirds and frolic like a couple of minks… I always thought Ms. Hunter was cute, but now I know she’s got an awesome bod, too… Then there’s Renee Russo’s nude scenes in _The Thomas Crown Affair_. Did Julianne Moore ever do a nude scene? ---

Carol Channing in _Skidoo_ (1968). Ingrid Thulin in _Cries and Whispers_ (1972). Shelley Winters in _King of the Gypsies_ (1978). Julianne Moore has done several nude scenes, including showing her fiery thatch in _Short Cuts_ (1993), and as a porn actor in _Boogie Nights_ (1997). ---

Julianne Moore? Oh, yes. In the Robert Altman movie _Short Cuts_ her character takes off a skirt to iron it, and her husband is upset that she has no panties on. She irons the skirt bottomless while they argue. Altman wanted to use nudity realistically. This scene is evidence for my contention that redhaired actresses are more likely than blondes or brunettes to do full-frontal nudity. (I’m talking about respected mainstream actresses.) Consider (in alphabetical order): Minnie Driver Marilu Henner Nicole Kidman Alex Kingston Helen Mirren Julianne Moore Kristin Scott-Thomas Tilda Swinton Kate Winslet – have all done scenes that make it clear they’re natural redheads. Why? I don’t know, but I’m grateful. ---

If all these women have blond or brunette hair growing from their scalps, but their pubes are red, then why are they called “red_heads_??” And I remember that _Short Cuts_ scene. I just didn’t remember it being Julianne Moore. But then, I wasn’t looking at her face much. ---
