Well, more important than this is, I don’t think having an all segregated crew is a part of what they’re trying to achieve.

> The first boats are the USS Wyoming (SSBN 742) and USS Georgia (SSGN 729), out of Kings Bay, Ga., and the USS Maine (SSBN 741) and USS Ohio (SSGN 726), from Bangor, Wash. The Trident boats are Ohio-class, nuclear powered, guided and ballistic missile submarines. Each has two crews, and each crew be assigned three female officers, according to a Navy release.

> Submariner from 1982 - 1987. Fast attack only. Unless things have changed since then, there’s no such thing as a “slow attack” sub. Ballistic missile subs were called “boomers,” and we in the fast attack classes such as the Sturgeon class used to call the (larger) Los Angeles class boats “slow approach.” But that was really just a sailor joke.

> Only on rare occasions did I find myself “hot-racking”; that said, I never saw anyone walking around (or emerging from their rack) nude. Wearing one’s dosimeter would have been problematic, anyway. I was never instructed that nude sleeping was forbidden, but it never occurred to me to ask, either.

A slow attack is still a sailor joke, but it refers to former ballistic missile subs either 640 or trident class which have been modified and no longer carry ballistic missiles due to start treaty restrictions. 640s now are primarily platforms for transporting special teams and some of the tridents are being modified as tomahawk missile platforms. They are being referred to as slow attack simply because of the top speeds they can achieve.

How about just threading a cord through the loops and wearing it around your neck? Maybe loop the little safety string around your mr happy?😃

mrAru said that the first time that someone in a-gang has to extract a tampon from the CHT pump the female officer will have to repair it the next time … Why are officers the worst offenders when it comes to flushing the stupidest stuff …:smack:

And I am disconsolate that the last of the [Sturgeon class subs](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Parche_%28SSN-683%29) was sent to the razorblade factory … my silly prank on a dependents cruise was always offlining the CO’s hot water recirc pump …

Yikes!
A submarine loaded with nuclear missiles, and the all-woman crew getting real cranky from PMS, and then the men on the nearby Russian submarine are rude over the radio? There goes world peace!

(Yes, really crude & sexist, but I couldn’t resist.)

I read this, of course, as “the men on the nearby Russian submarine are **nude** over the radio.”

> According to my father it was not a all unusual to be called to your duty station in the middle of your sleep shift and sailors (including) him frequently reported to duty naked in those situtations. Of course this was during Vietnam before women were allowed sea duty. I’ve also seen WWII photos with nude sailors manning anti-aircraft guns.

As have just gotten out of the Navy after being in for eight years I would need proof of this. As being nude while manning an anti-aircraft gun would be a bad idea for many reasons.

Any ways, to answer the OPs original question: I have slept nude in my berthing before. But, its not really a good idea as if there is a General Quarters or someone pulls you out of your rack for something then, oops, you are naked. But, there is also a massive lack of privacy which in general prevents even the most secure in their sexual affiliation walk around in the buff. I slept in a “berthing” of 265 people. This is a giant room with racks three high and about 30" between rows. Your rack has curtains to pull shut and that’s all the privacy you have. Which, in the event of a GQ or drill or someone needs you ASAP can be violated at any time.

So, needless to say, the lack of privacy pretty much insures that very few, infrequently, will sleep in the buff.

But it’s much **worse** for that gun to go unmanned during an emergency!
