Judge Engoron just imposed a gag order on Trump for making a Truth Social attack on the judge’s clerk. This does not surprise me at all. Trump is such a dumb ass. ---

Very diplomatic on the Judge’s part: “A defendant has posted…” (Paraphrased.) He did not name Trump. Sometimes, the passive voice works well. Ah, CNN has just interrupted the House debate to break this news. ---

engoron drops the hammer on trump! Justice Engoron said that his statement should be considered a gag order forbidding any posts, emails or public remarks about members of his staff. He added that serious sanctions would follow were he to be disobeyed. ---

Often, court staff become like family to a judge. Good grief, we spend more time in each other’s company than we often do with our own family members. I used to chuckle under my breath whenever a baby lawyer came in to try their first case and started ordering the staff (bailiff, court reporter, clerk) around like they owned the courtroom. It never went well for them. ---

In my orientation with new articling students, one of my top ranked tips is : “Don’t have two standards of politeness, one for the judge and counsel, and a different standard for the court staff or secretaries. Use the same standard of politeness for everyone.” ---
