# NY Ren Faire - Interested?

I was reading Cartooniverse’s post on directions on getting to the Ren Faire and I came to a important realization: all this time, I’ve been talking about a different event.
I’ve been thinking we were all talking about the Sterling Renaissance Faire in Sterling, NY (a small town west of Syracuse). I’ll admit I was a little surprised so many NYC Dopers were planning to venture forth into the uncharted reaches of Western New York, but no problem for me. I live only about an hour away.
But now the light has dawned. This is all just a nefarious plot to lure this country lad back downstate. Practically into New Jersey even.
Nevertheless, I’m the intrepid sort. I did after all survive seven years of living downstate. But this will now require a more extensive expedition with the building of base camps and hiring of Sherpa guides. So at this point, I am still a probable but I cannot in clear conscience remain a definite.

Better you should be amused. I was distracted yesterday, as my daughter was getting ready for the Junior Prom.
Also, for some reason, your screen name just has a feminine aspect to it. Perhaps because it reminds me of the name Megan. And I’m sure, on reflection, that I’ve seen you explain elsewhere that you’re a DoperGuy, not a DoperWumman.
At any rate, I’ll be more than willing to accept a kick in the keester.
Or at least buy you a brewski to amend my _faux pas._

I’m a definite possibility. I love road trips, but I’d prefer to have someone else drive down with me, cuz I hate long trips alone. If I can find someone else in the Boston area who wants to tag along, I’m there. Otherwise, I’ll have to see.

Intrepid](http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/), you’ve gone WAYYYYYY too far down the New York State Thruway. 😃 😃 😃 😉 I for one volunteer my services as Sherpa. While I detest cold, you will likely find the sublimely Rennaissancey Sterling Forest to be rather Amazon Rainforestishy, in early August. Best to pack that second goatskin for extra hydration.
I’m excited. As Head Sherpa, I’ve already got my wizened eyes, wind-leathered hands and my CD of gen-ue-ine Suffi Music to soothe our furrowed brows as we traverse the deep dense dark deadly Sterling Forest.
I do declare, I need a nap. 🙂

Being at least somewhat familiar with the area having lived there for a year and a half when I was working for Kay-Bee Toys, I’ll be driving straight to the site in the Euty-mobile to meet everyone at the site.

**Toons** , getting you to my house is the least of my worries. You’re already a native, and if you can find the Thruway, the rest is a snap.
**Euty** , if you’re going down the coast, across Westchester, across the Hudson via the Tappan Zee, then you might just as well stop at my house. It’s along the way. And faster that way than crossing at Beacon, I daresay. I hope you hadn’t intended to go that route. You’re going about 2 hours out of your way.
**punha** , where exactly are you coming from? It may be that you, also, would be going right nearby _Casa Dave-Guy_.
Remember, kids, the Dave-Guy has a minivan that seats about seven or eight passengers, and the Faire grounds are a large and crowded place.
'Twould be a shame for any Dopers to show up and not be part of the gang.

…what is this Thruway that you speak of?.. 😛
Might I suggest that we recconoiter OFF site at a designated time. The parking Faeries might guide us to different lots, once some fill up- picking a lot would be rough. HOWEVER ( I love this idea ) we can meet on Rt. 17 at the Big Apple Rest in the parking lot, then turn back a few miles to Rt. 17k and head up to the Faire.
Lots of room that way, nobody gets left behind, and the Big Apple Rest was used in a Woody Allen Movie !
Like I said, just a thought to avoid having a few carloads of Doper Faieries detached from the Main Convoy.
