NY State Bill to make a monitored list of people & groups promoting Israeli divestment. McCarthyist?

^ This.

The concept in itself is a Butt-Hurt-Reaction from Prickly Heat Asses to the 99th power.
That Israel the country has NOTHING TO DO with the USA as a state or a territory makes this concept immediately questionable and suspect.

Simply put, if files must be kept on all US citizens who oppose investment in Israel w/o changes, then Full Surveillance must be kept on all individuals pushing for this (and every single member of their house of worship, just like at a Muslim Terrorist’s Mosque).
Every email, ever cell phone call, every letter by regular mail, every car trip needs to be appropriately filmed, scrutinized, approved, and logged.

Welcome to Equality: Population YOU.

The bill requires the use of public sources of information. In other words, it extends only to those who have already made their affiliation with BDS publicly known.

I was being intentionally offensive/extreme to show the point: intentional privacy loss, investigations and discrimination based on POV, race, creed, sexual orientation or party affiliation is an ugly and offensive concept to Everyone. And It Should Be.
I intentionally reversed the scope to show how the some people who might think they’d support this type of legislation would probably hate it if it was applied against them the same way they’d like to have it applied against others.

The minute we start making “lists” and codifying that its acceptable to have lists… and to investigate, engage surveillance, and discriminate against people just for being on some “Black List” , we open a Huge door towards an easy abuse of power and an end to any Constitutional rights.
From that point, its just a matter of which criteria we put on who goes on the list. There could be infinite criteria to be filled in later for investigating and or discriminating against any person of any background for any reason once we allow any one list like this to be created and acted upon.
Show up at a rally for a political candidate? On a List.

Who keeps these lists… or will it all be lumped together like some huge “no-fly” list? What oversight is done on the people who compile and maintain it? What checks and balances would be in place to keep this list from being abused?
Who can see these lists? Employers? Clients? Neighbors?

“Sorry, we’re cancelling our contract with your firm. You’re on “The Black List”.”
“No, we won’t hire you. You’re on “The Black List”.”
“No, your child can’t attend school here. Your family is on “The Black List”.”
“Our hospital won’t treat you. You’re on “The Black List”.”

“Sorry, but you can’t use public transit. You’re on “The Black List”.”
“You’re drivers license is now officially suspended. You’re on “The Black List”.”
Honestly, this as a concept is scarier than the worst possible candidate for president being elected. Presidents have checks and balances and presidents have a 4 year term.

Lists? Lists are Forever.
