Of course it does. There’s no other way to explain it. I don’t mean quivering in the corner fear but a subtle fear about war and the possibility of another attack. Politicians and media play on this for votes or ratings. It’s fear, anger , and mistrust, being whipped up on purpose.
really? There was NYT artucle about it Dec 2009. It was presented as a positive thing on Fox in Dec 2009 . Months later when Fox decides to be reverse their views they demonize it and talk about it non stop until it becomes the overblown thing it has become. Laura Ingraham was okay with it in Dec, no problem. Now all she can do is talk about how insensitive it is. See any sincerity there? It only became a huge issue after the media decided it should be.
Do you have anyone you care about that you don’t agree with on everything? I care about my country and my fellow Americans. I care about upholding the principles of our Constitution. I get concerned when I see dishonest profit driven media and politicians manipulating my fellow citizens with religious intolerance and so many going along with it. I care.
here is what I was just talking about. You haven’t provided enough real evidence to show this is true, and I really don’t give a fuck what American hating Muslims think is a fuck you to America. Fuck them! I care about living closer to our principles and doing the right thing. I want that to be what people see.
I do understand it. Those people are not going to make me treat other people shitty and surrender American ideals because of it.
You need to read up on that event because you’re really stretching to think it relates. I’ve already explained why.
I have great sympathy and compassion for the family members of 9/11 victims who feel that Park 51 is hurtful. It isn’t easy to let go, but it’s sad for them to associate anything Muslim with their loss. Other family members see it differently
Statements like that seem more in the in line with healing and moving forward in a positive way. Holding onto hurt and transfering it to Muslims in general sure does not.
Last December when Laura Ingraham was interviewing one of the founders of the area 51 community center said"I like what you are trying to do". She was guest hosting for O’Rielly. Fox had not determined it was a viable political football then. She has fallen in line since.
It is not new and was not a touchy subject at all. Now it is a right wing political asset. I hope it blows up in their face. I don’t want bigotry and hatred to pay off for them.
You misunderstand. It’s not that you don’t want a victory monument to 9/11 that makes you fearful. It’s that you think Park 51 is a victory monument that does.
Aside from that, I don’t give a good goddamn what people from the Middle East think about what Americans unrelated to them in any way are doing.
Ooh, analogy time. If you purchase a gun for home protection and I make a statement to the press about how you’re finally going to put a bullet in some cop pig’s head, does that make you a cop killer?
Being so eager to see it as a victory monument yourself constitutes fear.
Giving a dam about what Muslims who hate us think about this issue constitutes fear.
Being eager to believe the negative instead of the preponderance of evidence for the positive constitutes fear, and bigotry towards Muslims as a group is grounded in fear. {No matter how many times you deny it}
Now if you’d like to start responding with “IS NOT!” I can respond with “IS SO” and we can probably eat up a couple of pages with that. !
The mosque under construction in Mulfreesboro was hit by arson last night. When you turn on hatred, you can have trouble controlling it or shutting it down. The righties are going to stoke the flames for months . A lot of innocent people will be hurt.
I am a New Yorker who lives in Brooklyn and works all over NYC. I worked 2 blocks from Ground Zero last week (at 42 Broadway).
I am totally for the park51 plan, and so is every single person I’ve talked to about it. It’s not that I am for any religion at all (I think they’re all retarded, to be frank), but the people who are opposing this plan are even more retarded.
I think it’s mainly the retards who live 1000 miles from the nearest mosque, as well as those racists who fill up Staten Island who are messing up these poll numbers. So I am going to say it right here - if you are a Christian, you are a child molester. What’s that, you say? You AREN’T? Are you sure, because I’ve heard about plenty of Catholics who have been caught red-handed molesting children. You’re part of the same religion, therefore you must be part of the problem. You can’t disagree with that statement and still think that all Muslims are responsible for, or even supported the 9/11 attacks. So I am going to cut the dick off of the next person who tells me that he’s a Christian, just in case.
The point I’m trying to make is that one person cannot define another person’s intent for them. Just because I think and say you want to be a cop killer because you own a gun doesn’t mean that’s actually the case, just as a random Middle Eastern Muslim thinking Park 51 is a victory monument doesn’t mean Rauf and his people are working to that end. Why are you willing to take a foreigner’s word over an American’s?
This is the other thing. If it’s all about proximity to Ground Zero, then why the hate for the Murfreesboro mosque?
You can read the for and against opinions from several groups including the families of 9/11 victims. My heart goes out to families who lost someone and I wouldn’t lay a bigot label on them even if it’s true. Blinded by grief maybe?
What stood out to me is reading the words of family members who defended Park 51. Contrasting those with family members against I see healing the wound and moving forward in those who support it. I see lingering pain and an open wound in those against. I feel for them, but I can’t agree.
