Well, one reason is that we know that Columbia admissions is fantastically racist, and Mamdani would have gotten a significant boost by lying about being Black. It wasn’t enough (he was rejected), which is possibly evidence that his grades were poor. ---

Oh no, a human being might have checked the wrong box as a teenager! How terrible! Surely comparable in pure EVIL to widespread corruption while in office, or multiple instances of sexual assault! But by all means, focus on the man’s grades in high school. This is what matters in America today. This is what journalists should be spending their time on. ---

How is that supposed to be filled in if you are multi-racial? e.g. I am white and Pacific Islander, do I choose one of those in section A, then choose Bi-racial in section B along with the additional race checked? That would be my instinct, but maybe that’s not allowed. ---

You can select more than one option in both sections. The second section is just if you want to write something explaining your choice. Mamdani could have just checked “other” and written Ugandan if he wanted to emphasize that. ---

Fun fact: the hacker behind this particular smear, Jordan Lasker, is long known for pushing fake studies claiming that black people are genetically less intelligent. A paper he published in 2019 labelled “Global Ancestry and Cognitive Ability” so deliberately misrepresented the NIH data it used that it got Lasker’s (tenured professor) co-author Brian Pesta fired. Lasker wasn’t even a graduate student at the time. He continues to promote pseudo-scientific bullshit of a similar ilk. I’m just mentioning this in case you wanted to avoid getting brushed with the same tar in future. ---
