Of all the overstuffed blowhards hauling ass around super-heated Midtown Manhattan tomorrow in their usual dark power suits and boring neckties, I really hope that Rush Limbaugh is the only one who keels over clammy and glassy-eyed from heat exhaustion.

See, New York tied the record high of 100°for this day, set in 1933. This prompted Limbaugh to [blogrant](http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_080106/content/cutting_edge.guest.html) not only about how the sensible people of the '30s didn’t believe in all this eyewash about global warming, but that _too many people today have access to air conditioning,_ and it has made the nation namby-pamby and weak.

Obviously, the kwityerbitchin conservative crowd is totally deaf to irony if they can bellyache about too many people “expecting comfort” in the air-cooled 21st century. Up yours with a rectal thermometer, Rush.

It’s just a lame attack on the idea of global warming.
If it got this hot in 1933 then high temps are nothing new. If they are nothing new, then there is no global warming.

Oh but he made _damned_ sure he was comfortable avoiding the heat … decades ago by avoiding going to Vietnam - or even the military for that matter. Heck, that pilinoidal cyst prevented him from showing what a true patriot he might have been.
He is cordially invited to go fuck himself.

No, just send him back to 1933. He’ll feel far more comfortable there, without all this modern air-conditioning.

Is anybody else reminded of the story of the frog in the pot of water? You know, it’s sitting in cool water with the burner set very, very low and doesn’t realize it’s being boiled to death because the rise in temperature is so gradual?

Yeah, I’m picturing Rush sitting in a frog-squat in his air conditioned studio denying the stove is on.

Rush is probably so high on oxycontin that he wouldn’t notice if he was being roasted on a spit, unless you tried to put an apple in his mouth, which of course would keep him from hearing the one thing he loves above all else – the sound of his own voice.

He’d have trouble matching [Father Coughlin](http://info.detnews.com/history/story/index.cfm?id=43&category=people)’s action, though.

As a matter of fact there was a period in the early to mid 1930/2 when it was hot as hell, and dusty too from a severe and prolonged drought. And, if Rush would check further, people died because of it.

When I first heard Limbaugh I was convinced that he was a satirist. Then I realized-he means it.

No need to preview a post this short, right? Change the underlined to 1930’s

You do realize that that’s untrue, right? Just because they’re cold blooded doesn’t mean they have no temperature sensors.

Read about the worst of those Thirties heat waves [here](http://info.detnews.com/history/story/index.cfm?id=134&category=life).

If you look up all-time record highs for your locality, chances are very good they’ll date to one month: July, 1936. Detroit was the hardest hit in human terms, with 364 people dead in _one week._ Across North America the total was _6,000._

Think about it a moment. A/C nonexistent except in places you had to spend money in - theaters and a few big stores. A simple table fan a luxury for many. The old icebox still the rule for most. Dressy clothing (by today’s standards) almost everywhere you went. Work days longer, manual work harder, bosses harder, and little understanding for heat exhaustion. Sleep - impossible.

Imagine farming in North Dakota. 16 hours a day or better of backbreaking work with no electricity for fans or fridges, only a pump for water, and hardly a tree for shade. North Dakota set the record among records that July: 121°. In the sunshine, where you worked, it might have been 150° or hotter. In this country only Death Valley has ever bested that kind of heat.

Conditions like these are what Rush would like us to return to.

Yes, which is why I called it a ‘story’.
