Nylon string guitar recommendations

No, it’s more like I need new strings and I was wondering if playing nylon strings would feel easier on my fingers. This guitar is my favorite, a Gaviola–the neck width is just right and it feels comfortable except for the strings sometimes feeling tough on my fingers.

Willie would like to have a word with you.

I wouldn’t do it personally. You would ideally need to get the guitar setup again and the sound is very different. Have you tried lighter gauge steel strings?

For the record, that wasn’t my list. It was from the link I provided.

I just looked at the original article and I take it they have never tried what they suggest.

I was a very poor young person and for a period, all I had was a cheap Yamaha classical guitar. I can guarantee I wasn’t fingerpicking classical music. I was beating the shit out of it with punk and rock with a pick. I was amazed at how much abuse those nylong stings could take (at the time I could break a steel high E by glancing at it)

Maybe by “wear out”, they mean their ability to sound good and stay in tune.

For my heavy hand, they definitely stayed in tune. Sound good? How good does Metallica or the Ramones sound on nylon strings? Beauty is in they ears of the beholder

Yeah, power chords actually sound okay with a pick. A lot better than they do on an unamplified electric! So, it’s sometimes okay on the bass strings; it’s the trebles that usually sound plasticky.
