This will probably win the award for “Stupidest Topic on MPSIMS” and to top it off, I’m _gag_ a newbie. Okay, stupid as it may seem, I’m dying of curiosity… What is the best brand of nylons out there? Which ones run the least, tear the least, and where can I find them?!?! I think it’s a perfectly valid question, but as I have little experience of nylons myself and the search engines I tried just threw up a load of fetish sites, we’ll have to wait for someone else to help out you out. ---

Ophelia, this is not a stupid topic. Not at all. The quest for good, sturdy, won’t-run-when-you-just-look-at-them nylons is a serious one, on par with the search for the Holy Grail. And like the Grail, some people believe good nylons exist, others simply scoff and say “Why waste your time? You know you’ll never find them.” What it comes down to is your personal beliefs. If we _believe_ in good nylons, and just keep looking, we’ll eventually find them, and the inner peace, control-top, and shapely legs we so desperately crave will be ours, forever and ever, amen. Christi - that’s interesting, cause I found Reliance to be one of the most unreliable brands around. Maybe I need to give them another shot. I like No Nonsense, cause their sizing fits me best. I’ve never seen a wear difference between brands. The best way to save money is to buy irregulars in bulk, available through catalogs (and Leggs has outlet stores). That’s all I buy, and maybe one in a hundred is irregular enough to tell why they disqualified it. I’ve never had a pair that I couldn’t wear. That said, the “support” hose lasts much better than regular hose, with an equivalent cost increase, and finding the right size will help. BTW, I don’t think anyone objects to newbies creating topics. It’s the adolescent, hormone laden, obvious, and predictable bragging threads by people who are more concerned with stroking their own egos than getting to know the rest of us, that are annoying. * * * I do not merely dance. Hanes, definitely. Not that I wear pantyhose very often, but when I do, I get Hanes. Close second are the ones you can get from Lerner New York. They’re cool because they come in tall sizes, which I need since I’m a shade under six feet. They also last a long time–I have a black pair that has lasted me over a year. Absolute last are those from Victoria’s Secret. They’re outrageously expensive, not very durable, and if you have even the least bit of tummy fat and you don’t sit ramrod straight, the waistband rolls. Ugh. ---

From the dusty memory banks of Rubes: I recall reading that if you get a run in your nylons, applying clear nail polish will stop the run. I can’t vouch for this as I don’t wear nor buy 'em. ---

Nail polish will stop a run, and for that reason I usually keep a bottle in my purse, especially to a formal affair. I have found the ultimate in pantyhose. At a shoe store in the Mall near my mother’s house. Parade of Shoes, I don’t know if they are a chain and if so how many stores or where they are located. They are 3 pairs for $10.00, A wonderful blend of materials that add a hint of shimmer and great support, and they last for at least 10-15 wears. I’ve washed and washed them and they still don’t run. I’m not at home right now, I have a few packs there. I will look at the manufacturer and get back to you. * * * Try not to have a good time…this is supposed to be educational. -Charles Schulz ---

## I bought 3 pair of Evan Piccone nylons at Steinmart a couple of months ago and so far no runs. They ran me $7.00 each but they’re a good quality hose and I rather like them. They’ve got a lot of hold…you know, control top. ::sigh:: “Someone’s boring me. I think it’s me.” ---

It depends on what you do. When I was a coctail waitress and has to wear this obscenely short thing, I wore two pairs of the cheapest ones I could find (Kmart, Target, whatever). If one pair ran, you couldn’t see it because of the other pair. Working in an office, I wore those thigh highs that stay up on their own. I bought in bulk so if one leg ran, I always had another matching leg. (I wore these when I was preggers too, _much_ easier than those horrid maternity things) Now, as part of the homemaker ranks, I tend to stick with Hanes if I need to wear hose. Unless it’s a big shindig, then I splurge on Givenchy, which makes wicked good sheers. * * * My kids brighten up our home. They never turn the lights off. - **A Wallyism** ---

My BF once told me he saw, in a lingerie shop window display, a pair of pantyhose made with – get this – kevlar! They sold for around $100. Of course, when I asked if they were sheer, how thick, etc., he couldn’t answer. Still, pretty useful for boot camp when crawling under barbed wire… On a more serious note, try to find pantyhose made with Lycra. They stretch more and prevent weakening of the fibers at the knees, where I used to get most of my “spontaneous” runs (also, you don’t get baggy knees). I also used to get runs from sitting at tables whose undersides were badly finished (that doesn’t sound quite right, but I’m sure you know what I mean). With Lycra, the fabric will catch but won’t necessarily run – you’ll end up with what looks like a tiny hole where the weave separates. The weight of the fabric will also play a role. I usually get the 20 deniers and they last a good while. You can also do what a lot of women did during the WWII nylon shortage – die your legs and draw a line up the back! If THAT runs, you’re really in trouble! ---

Forget hose - wear tights. I had to wear hose at a sales job I had in the freakin’ mall of all places. I never did find a pair of hose that lasted me more than 2 or 3 wears. I tried 'em all. I finally just started buying tights, except for those rare cases where I couldn’t find tights to match (then I broke down and wore a pair of pantyhose). The tights lasted more than a year. I live in Texas, and it was bearable even in the summer. -h\_thur ---
