That pangram is quite familiar to me since I’m a poet and former English teacher.
What the heck does it rhyme with?
Same here, and I also know it and BATTEMENT from having read a dozen young adult books about ballet
Disappointed that CHINOOK was not accepted today (7 Aug). It’s not capitalized when it means the fish, so it should have been good.
I thought so too, especially since
coho
was accepted. Turns out the latter is based on an adjective, whereas the former is based on a proper noun, which I suppose is the distinction.
Yes, but there are other accepted words that are sometimes capitalized and sometimes not. I can’t think of any examples off-hand, but I know they’re there.
MOROCCO and PANAMA come to mind.
Good examples. And continuing the country names theme, CHINA and CHAD. I’m sure there are other sometimes-capitalized words that are not country names that are accepted too.
Surprisinglly, this is the first time
CHINOOK
has been a possible word.
HABOOB
was rejected at first, so maybe next time.
Why does Discourse now insist on moving spoilered words to their own line?
I saw that yesterday and couldn’t figure out how to move the blurred text to the same line as everything else.
It happened at the same time it only became necessary to hit return once to begin a new paragraph. Gonna take a while to get used to that and stop hitting return twice.
That’s the WYSIWYG mode. If you don’t like it, change to the raw mode (click the button in the upper left corner).
BTW, there was no need to spoiler those two words, since they aren’t accepted in today’s game, nor are they close to words that are accepted.
The first one is
Unrelated. Just a coincidence that one syllable is like a completely different word. I wouldn’t consider this to be spoiler-worthy. In fact, I didn’t spoiler it in a post upthread.
You can’t spell
CHINOOK
without
CHINO
I disagree, as reasonable people can. If you see the longer word and haven’t found the shorter word yet, it could very easily clue you in to it. The last syllable is identical to the other word.
I came here to comment on two words I tried that weren’t accepted, COIGN (it’s in M-W, OED, Collins and more) and CHINOOK, which IMHO should be spoilered, since it contains two accepted words and rhymes with several others.
Why, if they accept MEGATON, don’t they take MEGATONNAGE? It’s another pangram and a bunch more points. ![]()
I tried that as well. It was an amusing set of pangrams.
Also on Friday I tried detent but it was not accepted.
Yeah, three perfect pangrams and three five-letter words that differ only in the last letter. That struck me as interesting.
