Fogeys are primarily old in attitude and probably old in age as well. Ah, so you – as well as we – have fogeys. Just to confuse things: in the UK a couple of decades ago (the usage seems no longer to be around these days) the expression “young fogey” frequently showed up. This referred to guys in the intelligentsia who were young in years, but embraced conservative political / social / religious principles and attitudes more characteristic of older folk. ---

Thanks to all the Dopers who replied to this thread … you cheered me up rilly good! My b’day turned out to be just fabulous. My spouse surprised me with … a new garbage can! Shiny stainless steel dome-y thingy with a swinging lid! I thought it was R2D2 at first. Then he told me to LOOK INSIDE. Ooooooo! Wrapped up in Christmas paper were two weird old bottles, to augment my weird old bottle collection. I now have a (paper-labeled) Down East Beverages / a product of Coca-Cola (no flavor named) clear glass bottle with curvy shoulders, and a paper-labeled PUREOXIA bottle made in Bahston! (Light blue!) It’s “Golden Ginger Ale” dated to 1920. Even more geezerish than I am 🙂 Pureoxia is somehow related to Moxie, which – yes, I drink --. We went out for the early geezer dinner and I had the Minnow Seafood Special and got stuffed to the gills. Did I mention the surprise local gourmet chocolates at breakfast, and as yet another surprise at … what, Lunch? Linner? After noon but before all the football & baseball games. MmmmmmMMmmmmmmMMM! I have a wonderful spouse. \*\*\* JOY \*\*\* 😃 \*\*\* GLEE \*\*\* ---

Get started now writing your column about how kids today have no manners and listen to awful music (cos back in your day you had _real_ music like Steppenwolf and Jethro Tull, now _that’s_ music) and how there’s no civility anymore and everything was better back in the 70’s when you had to walk 3 blocks to school even though the Russians might bomb you and you only had Cap’n Crunch for breakfast but you were grateful. It’s your duty as a geezer to scold the younger generations so when they hit geezerhood they know what to say. ---
