Because of the civil judgment against him. The money would (supposedly) go to the Brown and Goldman families.
It still remains one of the great travesties of justice that OJ walked free: many many people have been put away on much weaker evidence. I don’t think the jury took their duties very seriously.
Ok I don’t know the legal requrerments. Enlighten me. But I thought the standard was you are legally unable to profit from your crime…but it he wasn’t convicted it can’t legally be called his crime. So he could legally profit by this. Althought civil cases are something else.
I always thought that the glove try-on was the most ridiculous blunder in the history of criminal trials. He was trying on the leather gloves over latex gloves; of course it was going to look like they didn’t fit.
Try it yourself. I tried it the day after they did it during the trial. A pair of gloves that fit me reasonably well were almost impossible to get on over latex gloves.
Nevertheless, I have no idea how crucial that little stunt was in the jury’s minds. My own personal opinion is that they overlooked every other bit of evidence, and they would have overlooked the gloves fitting perfectly as well.
That is precisely what I was about to post. I watched as it happened, and I was barely an adult, yet I remember feeling like the only one in the world who seemed to understand that wearing latex gloves and trying on gloves of ANY size over them would be very difficult to do.
He does have some huge financial judgement hanging over his head from the civil trial, and I don’t know about the details of it. But there are some forms of income not covered by it. OJ is smart enough to have good lawyers, and I’d bet they’ve tried to shield the income in some manner. No goubt though, if there is a book and there are profits, the whole ugly mess will end up in court again.
As soon as they made the case about race O.J. was always going to get off. A super-majority black jury swallowed the racial bait hook, line & sinker.
The Goldman’s should be able to get some of any money he makes off of this.
F.Lee Baily said OJ would have passes a lie detector. He felt That OJ had convinced himself so thoroughly that it became true to him. Implication of course was that he did it.
Cheers, Revtim. Sorry I missed that before. Seems the only source is still the National Enquirer, so – all this is still :dubious:
I wish the guy would just flat out confess, to end the speculation once and for all. Even if he does write this “hypothetical” book, there will still be people out there adamantly defending his innocence: “He didn’t say he did do it, he just imagined what might have happened if he had! The real killers are still out there!”
What a scumbag. Even in the million to one shot that he actually is innocent, the fact* that he would even consider writing a book like this is beyond reproach.
*And, of course, assuming the Enquirer got the story right in the first place. I’ll be interested to see how this develops.
Does this mean he’ll stop looking for the real killer? He did thoroughly check all the golf courses, I admit…
I don’t know about being beyond reproach. Beyond, belief, perhaps, or even defying it…
Read: Payback for this minor travasty.
I dunno. I think if I were falsely accused of a gruesome murder, it would be pretty vile of me to make big bucks off of imaging in vivid detail just how I could have done it.
There actually is a reason he can’t profit this crime:

He owes the Brown estate so much that he will never effect payback, no matter how many bullshit books he manages to get published.
Rogders01, “beyond reproach” means blameless or faultless.
Oh man, have I got egg on my face! Thank you – I did know that; I don’t know what I was thinking of. :smack:
Good to know.
Thank you thankyouthankyou.
Yep, what a bunch of bull. Not only did they not ‘fit’ they would be an absoulte pain in the ass to try to put on.

Academy Award winning?
WTF?
Did I miss a memo?
