It’s official. Everytime I open up my browser, I immediately click on The Straight Dope. MSNBC has been my default home page, but now I’m changing to TSD since I go there first all the time anyway. How Lame is that… and mundane and pointless? ---

I 'spect it’s a fairly common addiction. I find that I habitually stop by General Questions and MPSIMS to keep up with the … err … news. It’s not really news, of course, but this place is a virtual community and I like to keep in touch. Sort of like saying hi to your family at the breakfast table. I live alone. _sigh_ Anyway, I like the way every time you click on an SDMB it’s different, unlike most websites which change daily at most. * * * That which does not kill me just makes me really irritable ---

Hello, my name is John, and I’m an SDMB addict. “HI JOHN” Hi. It started a few years ago. I’d get online and look at the SD webpage. Nothing big, just take a hit of a few articles, mostly the sex and religion ones. “Oh my.” Yeah. Then AOL kicked Cecil off and they had to go to a web page. That’s when I found the board. I was hooked. First it was just the great debates. I’d come in every day and get my GD fix. A few quick posts and I’d be okay for a few hours. Then it got so bad I had to go to the other forums. I was posting to the GD, MPSIMS, GQ, I even went to the PIT! “Don’t worry, John, we’re here for you.” [sob] [sniff] Thank you. “Just keep going when you’re ready.” [honk] Well, when I went on Christmas vacation, I didn’t do anything else. It got so bad I’d be online all day, just posting, and posting. Oh god! the withdrawl hurts! When I stopped going to sleep, and didn’t eat, just sat there all day, staring at the screen, waiting for someone else to post, my parents got worried. They found out about DA {Dopers Anonymous} and slipped a sedative into my coffee. They forced me to go cold turkey for a week and then sent me here. “Thank you for sharing, John. Everybody, let’s all give John a hug.” ---

“Caramel covered crack”? That’s the best one I’ve heard in years. And too freaking true. I just had a huge problem with my computer, and had to completely reinstall AOL. Thought I’d go crazy because it was taking too freaking long. Jonesing is an understatement. ---

Yes, this is the guy who hooked SmakD on TSD – I’ve been reading, attempting to assist with the fight of ingorance (its taking longer than I though)fpr several years now. It’s been my home page for a while now. Cristi, if you’re using Internet Explorer, go to “Tools”, “Internet Options”, the window that comes up should have a section where you can type in the address, or if you’re on the SDMB, hit the “Use Current” button and it will add the address for you. ---

Yeah, it’s been my homepage for a few months. The only other places I go are to [www.theonion.com](http://www.theonion.com) (new today in case you haven’t seen it), the homepage of a guy who works with me ( [www.mindspring.com/~therant/](http://www.mindspring.com/~therant/) ), and SD links.
