Judging someone’s realness (man or woman) based on on small quirk is strange to me.

As a former girlscout, I am always prepared (heh-heh)so there has been no need for me to send my SO into the wilds of the feminine products aisle to buy my products. He does enough for me already.

I don’t ee the big deal. Welcome Oakminster!

See, as far as I can tell, there are two basic scenarios:

1. GF has a menstrual emergency and sends her dearly beloved to the store _solely_ in search of supplies.

2. The dearly beloved volunteers to do the household shopping and tampons (ideally with all requisite purchasing information included) are on the list.

In Scenario 1, the girl is the jerk. First, in being boneheaded enough not to have at least enough to handle her moment until she can get herself to the store and second in using her sweetie as an errand boy. (This provision void if he asks if there’s anything he can do and she suggests the errand as the only real thing she needs. If he refuses then, his perogative, provided he does so politely.)

In Scenario 2, the guy is the jerk if he comes home with everything on the list _except_ tampons for no other reason than he doesn’t want to buy them. That just means that now the GF has to make a seperate trip to the store to buy a single item - it’s stupid and inconsiderate. If you don’t want to buy all the items on the list, then don’t offer to do the damn shopping.

Other than the potential for mild jerkishness on either side, I’m not sure what all the hoopla is about.

Oak seems like a nice enough fella, and I’m not dating him, therefore I am not forced to roll my eyes at his silliness in not wishing to purchase consumer goods of a certain type.

So you agree that buying tampons is “PC”? Oak doesn’t refuse to buy them because he’s uncomfortable. He says it’s because he’s too much of a man to buy them. He says buying tampons is “PC” and he hates “PC” things so he doesn’t do it. I mean, that is definitely  worthy.

I never really thought about scenario 1. And yes, I think a woman should be prepared. Whatever. I was thinking about scenario 2. I just think its childish to be afraid or embarrassed to buy supplies. I mean really, why would you make your SO make a special trip when you’re already going. Shit, for us that would be 40 miles of driving.

I’ve gotta say that is one of the most asinine discussions I’ve ever encountered here. When I read the thread that started this in IMHO or wherever it was, I thought to myself “Wook, there can’t possibly be an adult male who’s gonna say he refuses to buy feminine products. No one could be that lame. Certainly no one on this board”. I read through the first page and lost interest because everyone was responding in the manner I figured they would. I didn’t even see **Oakminster’s** post until I came here. Now, I don’t know **Oakminster** , and his feelings about such matters are his business and don’t impact my life so I don’t “care” per se. I am however absolutely flabbergasted that anyone over the age of twelve has such a backward, juvenile view on what should be a nonissue.
I’m not asking you to explain or justify. Just saying that I’m astounded to actually hear someone voice such an opinion. I think the only thing that disturbs me more is the women who are saying that they would never send their hubby (good christ, can’t we possibly eliminate this term from the English language?) to buy their tampons. Those that are saying it’s because it would be too hard for him to choose the correct product sort of make sense (though why you can’t write it down for him , I don’t know), but the whole thing about taking care of one’s self and making sure one is prepared, blah blah blah is about the second dumbest thing I’ve heard here. It’s an item at the grocery store. Just like milk, cereal or any other thing you buy weekly, monthly or whatever. There is probably no way I am ever going to grasp how picking one particluar kind of cardboard box off a shelf can differ in _any way_ from picking up any other one. That some women understand, nee _agree_ with this absolutely blows my mind. To me, it sounds like nothing more than some people not being comfortable with a normal human bodily function, and that’s just sad. Sad and immature.

That’s not how I read it. I read it as he doesn’t want to buy the tampons, for whatever quirky reasons he may have and he is not going to be swayed by PC directed appeals. I don’t see at as him trying to fight against the PC mentality of the world with htis act of defiance.

How exactly can you get something other than the fact that Oak thinks buying tampons is PC horseshit out of that?

While I must admit, I was thinking of scenario 1 and hadn’t really thought about scenario 2, mostly because I haven’t done household shopping with anyone in years. In scenario 2, I’m more or less with **enipla**. As I said, to me, it’s just one more household supply to be bought and stocked accordingly, like tea, toothpaste, etc.

Dude…he said “I don’t do X. I’m not Y.” The word because may not actually appear between those two statements, but they are certainly connected. This is a firm “meh” on the indignance-meter.

I also will not buy feminine products for my wife.

Why? It has a short story attached, so feel free to Pit me if you don’t want to read on.

My wife had the flu. She asked me to go to the store, and buy cough meds, Advil, and among other things, some “pantyliners”. I asked what I perceived to be some well-thought-out follow-up questions:
[ol]
[li]What brand of Tampon do you want?[/li][li]Are they all coated with adhesive?[/li][li]Are there different colors?[/li][/ol]

I had a good reason for all three of those questions, and I was smirked at for all three. Apparently, panty-liners are NOT Tampons. She just thought it was weird that I even asked #2 (I saw her removing a liner from her underwear once, and heard it peel off with a tape-like sound…I was inquiring as to whther or not she wanted one with adhesive if there was a choice), and #3 made her laugh out loud (thought it was like brassieres…maybe color varied by panty color?).

So, I went to the store after hearing what she wanted (which I kinda forgot…seemed needlessly complicated). I was absolutely bewildered by the selection. I picked a brand I recognized, thought it seemed workable or even better than the ones I saw her use, and bought them (a sale for 64 of them!).

It turns out that I bought a variety of Depends Adult undergarments. I still get laughed at about that.

Therefore, I won’t do it any loner, as a matter of principle.
