OB-GYN from the San Francisco area is planning a floating clinic

As far as transportation to and from the boat, how practical would a seaplane be? Though that might be harder to conceal as opposed to a boat.

I would also be concerned about privacy issues. Would the shuttle boat or plane run just once a day, or several times, and what if a woman has a medical emergency? Could the local ambulance service handle this?

So far as I can figure, any sort of vehicle at all has exactly the same problems. The only way to avoid that is if the patients are able to swim to the clinic ship.

Then the anti-abortionists will just seize the dock.

There is no logical legal solution that works around laws written to crazy standards and upheld by crazy courts. The solution is prevent the laws from being enacted or enforced.

More than once in our history the Feds have stepped in and said enforced at gunpoint that State’s rights don’t include trampling their citizens’ rights. I bet we’ll be doing it again.

There has got to be a Love Boat joke here, but I’m running late…

Which is exactly when you most need accessible abortion care.

What happens on the anti-Love Boat, stays on the anti-Love Boat??

Not great but it’s a start.

One could hope, but I don’t have too much faith in Congress, even if the Democrats do manage to ge 60 seats in the Senate. Too many weak-need appeasers.

Anyway, it seems like what would be an even better solution that a floating clinic would be if they could acquire an island somewhere. Or better yet, an adjacent landmass accessible by any number of ways, including planes, trains, and automobiles. They could call this mystery land “California” and rather than arranging trips to the coast followed by boat trips or helicopter flights (really?) to a floating vessel that will be easily tracked (and its comings and goings as well), they could perform those abortions beyond the prying eyes of these regressive state governments, and without the expense and trouble of maintaining a floating operating room (and good luck during hurricane season or even moderately rough seas).

In short, I think this is a terrible idea, and resources would be better spent covering cost of transportation to another state. There was a time when Reno was famous for divorces. Seems that’s the model to follow for abortions as well (metaphorically I mean: I haven’t looked into Nevada’s stance on abortion), until such time as (if ever) this country can be wrestled back from the conservative stranglehold.

Legal up to 24 weeks.
