CNN reported that one of the helicopters used in the mission went down due to mechanical trouble, and suggested it was destroyed by US forces to prevent any intelligence being gathered from it later by others. ---

It also says there was no advance warning to the Pakistanis. ---

It sound like the whole operation was as clean as could be. No civilian casualties, and no American personal were hurt. The team was in and out, just like that. Fuck, we’re good. I’m feeling kind of patriotic tonight, and proud (as a homely ex-Navy cook) that it was SEAL team that did it. The baddest asses of all are in the Navy. Anchors aweigh, bitches. If I was still in, and in a position to cook for them, those guys would be getting perfectly cooked steaks and the best liquor I could lay my hands on. ---

Fox reported a little while ago that Osama was given an opportunity to surrender, but refused. It must have made thsoe guys’ day when he did. Of course, Osama must have known he’d have ended up dancing at the end of a rope like Saddam anyway, so there wasn’t much point in him surrendering. ---

The President’s speech made it pretty clear that we didn’t involve the Pakistani government in this at all, and gave them no warning that we were coming deep inside their country to do what needed to be done. Obama said that he called the Pakistani president, and they \*agreed \*that this is a good thing for the world. I’m thinking that conversation went more like, “We came, we saw, we killed the monster. And we’re all happy about it. **RIGHT???** That’s what I thought you’d say.” ---

Just saying. If bin Laden’s body isn’t paraded around the US for everyone to see, some on the Right will refuse to believe this is real. ---
