Me: Eh, much ado about nothing. Obama is giving a press conference with a head of state (PM of Turkey, who also has his own Marine with an umbrella), GWB is walking somewhere.

You say that like it wasn’t a well known fact that Obama himself is a radical Islamist who has instituted Sharia law in at least five states.

Show him this picture of a proud Marine being roped into nurse’s aide duty to push former President George H. W. Bush in a wheelchair.
Mind you, I personally don’t think there’s anything in the least degrading about honor-guard Marines performing such services on public occasions for current or former heads of state. But those who are all het up about what a disgrace umbrella-holding is to the USMC uniform might wish to compare it with wheelchair-pushing.

Don’t do that. Neither is in any way wrong so stand on that, don’t aid a degenerate political philosophy by providing incidences where they can counter with equivocation like, “See, your party is no better than ours!”.

I’m reasonably certain the Marines in question would be either laughing hysterically or completely puzzled by the responses on this thread.
I could be wrong, but I think guarding the President is considered a high honor and they have to apply for it.
A sizable number of said folks also tend to go into full Fox News dick-suck mode whenever the armed forces (especially the Marines) are concerned. Instant scandal, just add water.
I struggling to think of any prior example of a substantial (few pages) pit thread where no one agrees with the OP. Some sort of backhanded congratulation seems in order.
Taken out of context the photo does look a bit as if the president can’t bother to hold his own umbrella. But the video shows that, as others have surmised, his main concern was for the visiting dignitary (whose name he seems to have temporarily forgotten).
Marines to the rescue
What a strange thread. If I was the commander of a massive military I would have soldiers walking before me strewing rose petals, or randomly beating people in the crowd for my amusement.
Bitching because he got two of his marines to hold umbrellas? If you can’t get marines to give you a dig out from time to time then what is the point of being a commander.
