> I don’t see “a few million” mentioned, nor does it say that the people being looked at would automatically be “prohibited people”.

I got “a few million” from [this LA Times article](http://www.latimes.com/nation/politics/la-na-gun-law-20150718-story.html). It says ‘About 4.2 million adults receive monthly benefits that are managed by “representative payees.”’, which is the number I was vaguely recalling when I posted. To be open about the discussion, later on the article says, ‘About 2.7 million people are now receiving disability payments from Social Security for mental health problems, a potentially higher risk category for gun ownership. An addition 1.5 million have their finances handled by others for a variety of reasons.’ so perhaps I should have said “1.5 million” instead of a “a few million”.

As for “prohibited persons”, while the [WhiteHouse.gov](http://WhiteHouse.gov) “fact sheet” is admittedly vague on the details, it’s my understanding that they’re going to report the identities of these people to NICS, probably as “mentally defective”. Reporting the identities of people to NICS is, as I understand it, what makes them a “prohibited person” (for firearm purchases). Is there some other definition of “prohibited person” you were working from?

> The gun lobby is fond of saying we have too many laws on guns and they’re not being enforced so why make new ones. I would like pro-gun people here to name 3 laws already existing that regulate guns that are not being enforced that they would happily support the enforcement of. Enforce the laws already on the books! Isn’t that the rebuttal to every new proposed law? So which ones should we enforce?

1. The anti gun crowd brags about the millions denied purchases due to failed NICS background checks. I’d like to see even a fraction of them prosecuted for lying on the 4473 form.

2. Straw purchases are common, illegal, and rarely prosecuted.

3. Just a few licensed FFL dealers proportionally are causing lots of trouble by making illegal sales, losing guns, and are connected with far too many guns used in crimes. Everyone, including the ATF knows who the problems are yet little is done to address the issues.
