> Funnily enough, when I think of “people with a sense of entitlement and a total lack of appreciation of American values and how it became the mightiest country in the world” Trump would be near the top of the list.
>
> We don’t think you’re an idiot for wanting visa laws enforced. I want that too. Pretty much everyone wants that.
>
> But thinking “we have endless amounts of money for Dreamers and Syrian refugees”? Thinking that the national budget agreed by House Republicans is so fungible that Obama can just apply money wherever he wants? Thinking we can enforce every law on the books even when Congress has deliberately cut budgets to the agencies responsible for doing so? Those are not signs of well-reasoned positions.
>
> If you want to be a bounty hunter, go be a bounty hunter. Nothing is stopping you. It does seem a bit weird that you’d be so keen to hunt down visa overstayers when you could already be going after far more serious threats to public safety such as murderers and armed robbers and rapists. Perhaps your priorities are also not particularly well-reasoned.

Well, the armed robbers and rapists also pose a more serious threat to **PCP** ’s personal safety, so it makes a certain mount of sense to preferentially pursue lawn care guys and drywall installers…

> A lot of Mexicans don’t give a fuck about Trump. And more illegal immigrants are leaving America to go back to Mexico than are coming to America these days. I guess they can’t handle all that greatness.
>
> Trump doesn’t have a “winner” mindset. He has a narcissistic one. Trump loves Trump, and has repeatedly screwed over investors, employees, customers and occasionally family members to get what he wants. And he will happily screw over America and everyone who voted for him if it benefits him personally, leaving the country in ruins like so many of his previous efforts.

Like Mexicans, you focus on Trump instead of dealing with Mexico’s shortcomings. Don’t Mexicans have any pride? I’d be embarrassed if my country was so far behind and all I could do is make piñatas of Trump as a response. Make Mexico great. I would put “Again” in that sentence but I don’t know if it ever was great. Why don’t Mexican diaspora make any sort of effort to change Mexico for the better instead of playing the role of victims all of the time?

Do you agree with me that deporting young people who are undocumented would be cruel? is legality more important than humanity? And if that is \*not \*your point, have you one? Just how much of a hard-ass are you willing to be? What are your limits? Many of these young people are serving in our military, you gonna wait till they are mustered out and say “Thanks for your service, now fuck off!”?

I agree that we need an intelligent system where people can come here and work if they want and a way to earn citizenship in service of their country. What I do not support is people condoning ignoring the law. I’m looking to move to the UK. Do you know how difficult that is? But why do I have to jump through the hoops and possibly get denied my work visa yet anyone who wants to plop themselves in the US is fine?

And I do not agree that deporting someone who is not an American along with the rest of their family is cruel. If they are Mexican or Canadian or Chadian they should be deported and have to go through the legal method of entering the US.

Hilarious. Do you think Mexicans aren’t proud of their country? Do you think there aren’t many, many Mexicans working to improve it? Do you know _anything_ about Mexico? Because I assure you that Mexicans are fiercely proud of being Mexican and are working hard to improve their country, despite the efforts of corrupt, self-aggrandizing policians. In this, they’re a lot like the US.

But let’s turn that around again, since you focus on Mexico instead of dealing with Trump’s shortcomings. Don’t conservatives have any pride? I’d be embarrassed if my candidate was so willfully ignorant and all I could do is make vague, uninformed statements about Mexico as a response. Make the Republican Party great. I would put “Again” in that sentence but I don’t know if it ever was great. Cite? Can you provide examples of Mexican diaspora trying to implement structural changes that would make Mexico better? Have they even recognized the problem?
I’m not talking about sending aid packages or building a school or sending over t-shirts with “Make America Mexico Again.” Who is trying to fundamentally change Mexico so it is on par with the United States? Please, if you have such information, please provide the links. Prove me wrong.

Let’s take somebody who may be too young to have any memory at all of Mexico, who may or may not even speak the language fluently, and who may or may not have close family there, and dump them back there, with a minimum ten-year ban on applying for reentry. You don’t think that’s cruel?

Remember, there’s no guarantee at all that they are being deported with the rest of their family, or that they have any family or friends back home. By definition, they committed no crime themselves, so you can’t say they are in any way responsible for the situation. Under current U.S. law, they didn’t have much opportunity to fix the situation their parents put them in, and they may have essentially no chance of legally applying for an immigrant visa. (We don’t take applications from random people who just want to make a better life for themselves. We take employer-sponsored applications and applications from those with close family members who are already citizens or legal residents, and if our teenager or young adult doesn’t fit into those categories, too bad.)

Some quotes:

“Though an estimated 300,000 people still enter the U.S. illegally each year, that represents a precipitous fall from the first half of the decade, when the number was 850,000.”

…

“Even though Mexico is clearly still struggling, there are signs that the country is gradually improving. Crime is down in border cities like Ciudad Juarez. Mexico’s fertility rate is falling and its population is aging, meaning there are fewer young workers scrambling for jobs (half of all Mexican immigrants are under age 33). For the first time in decades, Mexico has a fledgling middle class. Its GDP growth rivals Brazil’s, and economically, some economists think the country is doing even better than the United States. According to the OECD, Mexicans are about as satisfied with their lives as people in Iceland or Ireland are.”

…

“In 2007, 21 percent of Mexicans said they wanted to move permanently to another country. Today, that number is 11 percent, the same as for U.S. residents”

> For some reason, liberals think our borders are meaningless.

Traditionally, borders have denoted the area a country’s army will defend, and the area where a country’s laws will be enforced. This “borders restrict the migration of average individuals who just want to move” is a fairly new concept, and one that falls somewhere between stupid and evil.

I’m not a liberal, but I do think that restricting the right to move shouldn’t be a power any government has. But their racist and xenophobic electorates feel differently. So we start talking about people, themselves, being “illegal”. And people still think this is a free country? People actually think they’re advocating for freedom, the Constitution and the American way when they ban human beings from _moving_?

> The extraordinary Mexican migration that delivered millions of illegal immigrants to the United States over the past 30 years has sputtered to a trickle, and research points to a surprising cause: unheralded changes in Mexico that have made staying home more attractive.
>
> A growing body of evidence suggests that a mix of developments — expanding economic and educational opportunities, rising border crime and shrinking families — are suppressing illegal traffic as much as economic slowdowns or immigrant crackdowns in the United States.

> [@](#):
>
> Crossing “mojado,” wet or illegally, has become more expensive and more dangerous, particularly with drug cartels dominating the border. At the same time, educational and employment opportunities have greatly expanded in Mexico. **Per capita gross domestic product and family income have each jumped more than 45 percent since 2000, according to one prominent economist, Roberto Newell. Despite all the depictions of Mexico as “nearly a failed state,” he argued, “the conventional wisdom is wrong**.”

>
> Teachers here, in classrooms surrounded by blue agave fields, say that enrollment is down slightly because families are having fewer children, and instead of sending workers north, some families have moved to other Mexican cities — a trend also found in academic field research. Around half the students now move on to higher schooling, up from 30 percent a decade ago.
>
> “They’re identifying more with Mexico,” said Agustín Martínez González, a teacher. “With more education, they’re more likely to accept reality here and try to make it better.”

Oh look - Mexico has been making significant progress in recent years politically, economically, educationally and culturally. There are still many things that need improving, but it’s not some third-world backwater.

(Also: man, there are a lot of academic papers on the diaspora.)

That’s Indian, not British. British food is basically “boil it down until it has no flavor left.”
