I’m baffled by this. He’s been in office less than a year. There are still two wars going on. The world is no more or less peaceful than it was when Bush was in office. What in the name of Christ did he do to win this prize? I’m going to make up a prize and award it to myself. I’ll call it, “The Prince Frederik Hendrik of Orange Prize for Excellence in Beard Grooming.” Yay! I just won the Prince Frederik Hendrik of Orange Prize for Excellence in Beard Grooming! ---

I am pro-Obama myself, and am baffled as to why he got it … I think it is too soon to determine if he is going to bring peace or not. As was pointed out, we are still in 2 full on war zones and last I heard there was some debate as to sending more guys over to Afghanistan. ---

Another pro-Obama Doper professing to be confused by this award. I don’t understand what the decision to give him the prize is being based on. If everyone that very badly _wanted_ peace was deserving of the award…well, there’d be a lot more awards handed out. ---

What are the odds that Obama refuses the prize as a display of classiness? I’ll lay 40-1. Also, maybe this is a make-up because the international community feels bad for Chicago not getting the Olympics. ---

Yes, because George W. Bush wanted to wipe out the rest of the world. :rolleyes: He started a needless war in Iraq and Afghanistan - but that’s a far cry from pointing nukes at Manila. Bill Clinton bombed Belgrade - did he also want to “wipe everyone else out?” Please, this characterization of Bush as some mustache-twirling Bond villain who is hell bent on world destruction is so fucking 2006. ---

I think the smart and classy move is to say that he sees the award as an award for the American people, and then put some spin on how the 2008 election was a vote for peace, blah blah blah.
