Why not? He has plenty of experience in Washington and was a major driving force in pushing Universal Heath Care during Clinton’s administration, he didn’t succeed, but it doesn’t mean he hasn’t learned anything. Universal Heath Care is on top of Obama’s priorities, why wouldn’t he want a guy that’s been there done that?

Wilson has always been a staunch republican. He only started talking to the dems when they threw him and then his wife under a bus.

Cite? In his book, he came across as resolutely non-partisan, which is how he remained in government service through so many different administrations.

Looking at [his policies](http://www.ontheissues.org/IL/Rahm_Emanuel.htm), you’re right, he does have a very good, imho, strong left, social/domestic record. It’s the few blemishes on his record that he does have that really stick out to me however. First off he supported the supported the war, but to be fair he has some strong votes in favor of bringing it to an end. My biggest issue with him however, is with his votes to a)make the Patriot Act permanent and b) voted against telecom immunity. These two issues were also my biggest complaints about Obama(note: BO didn’t vote to make it permanent, but for its reauthorization when he pledged to repeal it); their immunity votes were the same.

I also take issue with [the way he acted](http://thatsmycongress.com/index.php/2006/07/06/understanding-the-rahm-emanuel-hissy-fit/)in regards to Howard Dean’s ‘50 state strategy’.

Mixed feelings. He is not as bad as I had originally thought, again, I do really like his social platform, and I actualy like the fact that he can be a real pitbull. I have supported Obama all the way through his campaign (DK was my top pick fwiw), though I have for near as long been fairly wary about just how far to the right his foreign policy/homeland security positions go. I’m by no means devastated by the pick, in fact I really get it for the most part, I am just a bit disappointed that the pick does not appear to be as progressive on the security side as it is on the social.

Sounds like Obama’s first pick been announced or leaked out, since I thought they wanted to make the Treasury pick first.

[Everybody’s reporting that Eric Holder has been chosen as Attorney General.](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Holder) Holder was a Deputy AG for Clinton, and since everybody else is saying it, it should be noted that he would be the first African-American U.S. Attorney General.

[Geithner is said to have been selected for Treasury](http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081121/bs_nm/us_usa_obama):

> President-elect Barack Obama has selected Timothy Geithner as Treasury secretary, charging the respected head of the New York Federal Reserve with pulling the United States out of an economic nosedive, NBC news reported on Friday.
>
> Geithner, 47, had been seen as one of two main candidates for the job along with former Clinton administration Treasury chief Lawrence Summers.
>
> U.S. stocks soared on the news, pushing major indices up more than 6 percent. The Dow Jones industrial average closed above 8,000, an important psychological trading level.
>
> “A fantastic choice to help lead the financial markets out of the wilderness,” said Chris Rupkey, senior economist at The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi in New York, of Geithner. “A crisis manager par excellence who will hit the ground running as he has been on the case since the global funding crisis began way back in July 2007.”
>
> A senior Democrat told Reuters in Washington that Obama wanted Geithner for the Treasury job, but had yet to make a offer. He did confirm that Summers was no longer under consideration.
>
> “Summers is off the list,” the source said.

[This Wikipedia article](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obama_transition) on the Obama transition includes a table (updated as needed, I presume) of announced appointees to date. Hillary Clinton will be SoS. (I would’ve expected her to stay in the Senate by her own choice.)

Actually for someone who says he wants to renegotiate NAFTA, taking a border Governor with foreign policy experience for commerce isn’t such a terrible idea.

[Nobel Prize-winning physicist Stephen Chu will reportedly be nominated for Energy Department secretary](http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/12/10/obama.energy/index.html), and former Clinton EPA head Carol Browner will be appointed to a new climate post. While I’m not familiar with either, Chu is certainly not one of the Washington insiders people have been complaining about, and it’ll be interesting to see how people respond to that choice.

> In June, former deputy attorney general Eric Holder gave a speech to the American Constitution Society (ACS) in which he blasted the Bush Administration’s tactics in the war on terror, saying the nation needed to reverse “the disastrous course” set by the Bush administration.
>
> “We have quite frankly lost our way,” Holder said, calling for the U.S. to close the detention center at Guantanamo Bay (“an international embarrassment”); declare that it is the law, policy and practice that the U.S. does not torture people or subject them to cruel or inhumane treatment; end the practice of rendition; and stop any warrantless domestic surveillance.
>
> “Our needlessly abusive and unlawful practices in the ‘War on Terror’ have diminished our standing in the world community and made us less, rather than more, safe,” Holder said. “For the sake of our safety and security, and because it is the right thing to do, the next president must move immediately to reclaim America’s standing in the world as a nation that cherishes and protects individual freedom and basic human rights.”

Looks like change to me.

And the head of the EPA is…

Lisa Jackson, formerly Jon Corzine’s chief of staff. I don’t know a thing about her, I don’t need to know a thing about her. All I want to say is “Phew!”

Also, deputy LA Mayor Nancy Tutley will be in charge of the WH Council on Environmental Quality, which I think is a new group.
