Obligatory kitten pictures

I don’t see any tricolor. I see tabby and white. Tabby isn’t two colors - it’s a varigated coat pattern (each hair contains shades of the same color). There’s one pic where it almost seems like there’s a little orange at the mouth, but I think its an artifact of the lighting, because it isn’t in the others.

Ahem. Squeeeeeeeeeeeee.

You guys are good -

Yes, Maine Coon.

Yes, probable eye infection. (Vet appointment scheduled, although it seems to be getting better on its own.)

Yes, girlcat not boycat. I couldn’t come up with a good girly name, so I went with Caesar.

Caesar spent last night biting my feet through the blanket and nipping at the end of my nose, presumably to wake me up to play. Or perhaps just because she is pure adorable evil.

i’m thinkin’ too that left eye needs a little bit of attention, blackknight. and definitely in the main coone neighborhood. caesar reminds my of my turk - all 18 pounds of him!

I always give this advice to new cat owners (and I think they always ignore me) - train her right from the start to not sleep with you - to get her used to that closed bedroom door. I know they’re so cute and snuggly when they’re sleeping on your bed, but they want to start playing at 3 in the morning, then they want breakfast at 4:30, then they want to attack every thing that moves all night long, after they’ve lulled you into a false sense of security by looking so cute and snuggly at the end of your bed as you so trustingly fell asleep.

We got our Maine Coon as a rescue when she was a year or two old so I never got to see her as a kitten. This helps, so thanks!

<scratches head>

Both my cats ‘sleep’ with me. They learned very early on that any untoward behaviour in bed would wake me up and they would be unceremoniously evicted.

So, no biting, pawing, chewing or scratching since about the first week I had them.

P.S. Adorable kitty.

She was bored, and wanted to play. She might be pure adorable evil as well, but mostly she was bored.

But right now, get her used to the idea that you don’t play or feed her during the night. And get her used to being brushed and having her kitty manicures on a regular basis, while she’s still small enough that you can hold her down with one hand. Her fur is long enough that she’s going to need a lot of brushing, and possibly need summer haircuts. I’ve heard that some people just get their kitty’s tummies clipped, which preserves the appearance but gives them some cooling. Other people go with a lion cut, which embarrasses the cat but also gives it more cooling.

I found cats usually love baby blankets. Go to a thrift store and get a bunch. They’re cheap and cats love the felt. So if you put them out, the cat will lie on them. It makes cleaning the hair up easier as you just toss the blanket in the washer

Also construct a high place for the cat to stay. Cats love to be high up where they can look over their domains. That way instead of bothering you, they are up high sitting on their baby blanket.

One of my cats was actually very good about sleeping through the night and just being a snuggle monster until we got the dog. Now he bitches and moans all night long and has to sleep in the other room (which doesn’t help much because you can hear the screaming and the scratching on the door anyway) because he is upset that his routine was messed up.

That’s good advice about getting kitty used to nail-trimming - neither of ours like having their nails trimmed, so it doesn’t happen nearly as often as it should. You can hear both of them clickclickclicking around on our laminate floors all the time.

I buy odd ends of fleece at the fabric/craft store. The cats love it and when they get too hairy to clean any more, into the garbage they go. Garage sale blankets are great too.

My kitties love cat towers. I’ve found they are much, much cheaper online than at the local pet store. Or, you can build a tower out of sturdy boxes.

Kitten!!!

:: falls over from the cuteness ::

You’re a kitty!

I work in the design department of a corrugated box plant. Right now she has a plethora of boxes to play with / sit in / attack / irrationally fear being attacked by.

But I have plans brewing in the back of my mind for a more complicated corrugated kitty condo. It will have a tunnel and a tower. Possibly a moat. (Ok, probably not a moat.)

:confused::confused::confused:
A kitten? Not allowed to sleep with you?!?!? That’s half the point of getting pet!

She’d probably be OK with a moat, as long as you don’t insist on putting water in it. She’s a lucky kitty, yes she IS.

One of our cats dug all of the documents out of a banker’s box, simply so he could sit in it. We have learned that he gets the first option on ALL boxes that we bring into the house. We are allowed to use the boxes ONLY if he has rejected them, and he reserves the right to change his mind about a box at any time.

My dad worked in a paper/box plant, and he’d regularly bring home boxes for us to play with, big ones, little ones, waxed ones…he had a boring job as a middle manager, but he did like those perks.

Aww, cute!

And YMMV on the sleeping thing. We have 7, and usually anywhere between 3 and 6 of them sleep with us. Aside from a bit of poking as our one butterball snuggler prods the humans into the proper position (for his comfort), they all settle in and sleep just fine. This has been true since they were kittens.

You actually don’t need a kitty tower any high place they get to will do.

My cat went

Floor -> Dresser -> Filing Cabinet -> Shelf (with baby blanket)

So I only had to put up on high shelf and Ms Cat happily hopped up to the top

Sure, they’re cute and snuggly as kittens, then they grow up into cats, and cats are a massive pain in the ass (mostly on purpose, just because they can).

I can see my message is falling on deaf ears. :frowning: (But it’s okay - to each their own.)

You need to speak louder.
