Nitpick
The P-38 was a fighter but not a jet. It had propellers.

Much, much better than using a knife.

I don’t think Lumpy meant using the knife blade. A canopener is a common tool on a Swiss army knife and on similar knives.

Ok, never had a SAK. I prefer a single short lock back blade.

The Juice models of Leatherman tools have a pretty good can opener, especially when you file it down a bit and put an edge on it.

Lighter, and you can have both! Some people duct tape a P51 to the top of a can, just to make sure.

Heh, you’re right. I remember the image showed propellers. Jets were used in WWII, though, weren’t they? Just not in the beginning?

The only operational jets were German and very late in the war. Both the Germans and Japanese had rocket-propelled aircraft that were suicidal (either intentionally or not. The Komet was a death-trap.)

Probably the most famous was the Messerschmitt Me 262. It didn’t have a can opener named after it, but got a Blue Oyster Cult song instead.

These last two posts are why I love The Dope. Better and more interesting answers than google!

But I’m carrying the pocketknife anyway.

I always do.

Never without mine. Unless on vacation and I only have a carry on. Always pisses me off because I will always need it at some point.
