A (male) friend of mine just told me that he considers America’s “Sister Golden Hair” to be a song about impotence.

Well I tried to make it Sunday, but I got so damn depressed
That I set my sights on Monday and I got myself undressed
I ain’t ready for the altar but I do agree there’s times
When a woman sure can be a friend of mine.

Mmmmm…Could be.

But then why would he be getting undressed, just _after_ trying to make it? A leather fetish?

My pet theory remains that — well, there were only 17 episodes; here’s the plan from one: _“You know, you really do bear a remarkable resemblance; remarkable. Your job, Number Twelve, will be to impersonate him. Take his sense of reality away. Once he begins to doubt his own identity, he’ll crack.”_

That’s it.

That was their whole plan in that episode: confront him with a guy who appears to be him, and — hope. Not to be confused with the episode where he’s told that he’s now in charge, since the reveal will then be ever so demoralizing; and not to be confused with the one where he seems free to leave, because, wow, yanking that out from under him will surely do the trick, huh?

They’re, uh, _not great at this_; those failures were the best plans they could think up. Final episode: will they think up something cleverer? Not really, no; again, they pretty much top out at ‘confront him with a lookalike, and tell him he’s in charge now, and make it seem like he’s free to leave’. And, again, it doesn’t succeed. What? Ape mask? Well, okay; I mean, for _them,_ that’s a genius breakthrough.

Yeah. It’s kind of their thing. They’re nerd-rock.

[Their songs](http://kirbykracklemusic.com/video) heavily reference comic books and video games.

> I was watching “The Predator” last weekend, very stupid movie but I had fun and thats all that matters. …

I was hearing from my high school-age son last night about the short story he’s reading in English class, “The Most Dangerous Game.” Plot: Guy falls off boat and swims ashore to an island where a crazy guy hunts men for sport, because of the challenge.

It just occurred to me then that the story of “The Predator” is basically the same, and likely inspired by that short story: Alien comes to Earth to hunt men (armed mercenary types) for the sport of it.

Some observations about Harry Chapin’s Cat’s In The Cradle

The song’s versions have ten years between them. The son gets born, then its his 10th birthday, then he comes home from college as a 20 year old man, and finally he’s a 30 year old with a job and children.

Since the singer has “long since retired” in the last verse, let’s say he’s 70. That makers him 40 and a middle management type when his son is born, 50 and too old to play ball on his son’s 10th birthday, an old man of 60 when his son comes from from college and doesn’t want to hang out with him, and 70 at the end.

However, he is a neglectful father, too busy with work to be a parent. His son’s last last “the new job’s a hassle and the kids have the flu” show that his son pays attention to his own chuildren, and is a hands on parent.

So to add two decades to the lyrics:

I’m now in a home and I miss my son.
He tells me his kids have a lot of fun.
I wish that he would just stop by.
I’m so old and how time does fly.
He’s really become a hands on dad.
Having the fun we never had.
And the cat’s in the cradle…

Now that I’m 80, there’s one trip I have to take
My son, the grands and great grands came over for cake.
My life is pretty much at the end.
I wish I could do it all again.
And this time really connect with my son.
I guess I’m not the only one.

Ghost, one of my favourite bands, just released a new EP, 7 Inches of Satanic Panic.

I have been earwormed by the first song on it, [Kiss the Go-Goat](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyxrzUe_TDM) basically since the thing came out. But the title was bugging me. I knew there was some sort of gag in ‘Go-Goat’, but I couldn’t figure it out.

Then I saw someone mention that the video (set in 1969, when 7 Inches was supposedly originally released) featured go-go dancers.

Then it hit me (like an angry go-go dancing goat).

I’ve never heard of that band, so I watched that video. Is that like a parody or satire band or something?

Not as such, but they don’t take themselves particularly seriously - the band’s premise required either being slightly goofy, or super-serious, and they chose the former. The storyline videos that started in the runup to Prequelle particularly lean into it - Papa Nihil (the old man) is way sillier than the Papas Emeritus or Cardinal Copia (the lead singer’s personae - although he also sings for Papa Nihil on 7 Inches, he doesn’t perform him beyond that) have ever been, but even they can be pretty goofy (particularly Papa III and Cardi C).

Currently reading Pete Townshend’s and Roger Daltrey’s autobiographies…

And finally I learn what “Quadrophenia” means.

The main character has four sides to his personality - a quadro-schizophrenia.

Just got back from 2 weeks in England. While I was checking a bus stop time table I saw a reference to route 66N - N being the night bus.

Wait… Harry Potter had the Knight Bus… Knight…Night :smack::smack::smack:

In my defense I’m an ignorant Yank and have never encountered the term Night Bus, but the pun is pretty obvious in retrospect.
