Obvious things about a creative work you realize after the millionth time (OPEN SPOILERS POSSIBLE)

You can. No hooks, just a chunk of fat or something- if they grab it, you can lift them out and they wont let go if you do it slow.

We used to use small pieces of hot dog.

That works fine.

And it should be noted that the same piece of hot dog works for many crawfish. They don’t get a chance to eat it, so you just drop the little sucker in your bucket or cooler and drop the hot dog back in.

I used to just wade in and turn over rocks. But it was strictly catch-and-release anyway.

It just hit me that the title of the Sleater-Kinney song “Youth Decay” sounds like “tooth decay”.

I was listening to a cover of Poco’s Crazy Love the other day, and I was struck by the lyric

Why would anyone need to pretend not to hear teardrops? They’re not particularly cacaphonous.

It’s not teardrops you can’t hear – “teardrops” are metaphors for the meteors coming down.

Of course, the meteors I’ve seen have been completely silent. Some meteors, however, do make noises.

But in my experience, I don’t have to pretend not to hear them. YMMV

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread. Sorry about the hijack.

I’m rewatching Detroiters right now. It’s not the millionth time (third or fourth maybe), but it’s the first time I’ve re-watched it since I Think You Should Leave.
For those unfamiliar, I usually explain Detroiters to people as “I Think You Should Leave” but in sitcom, rather than sketch, form. But other than that, it’s a very, very similar style and sense of humor and both featuring Tim Robinson in a/the lead role.

Last night the episode I was watching featured this “gag” twice, where the guy stood up, said “this just a piss dot” and leaves it at that.
Starts at 0:54, slightly NSFW.

That came out 5 years before the world was introduced to Calico Cut Pants.
I can’t find the sketch on youtube, so here’s the fake website that’s still up and running.

I was just watching one of those YouTube reaction videos to Back to the Future Part II, and I just realized that Alternate Reality Biff killed Marty’s father and married his mother. It’s like Hamlet!

Ehhh… I mean yes, in that both involve marrying the widow of the person you murdered. But it’s not as if there’s much more to the similarities than that. I don’t think you could make an argument that BTTF2 is a dark Hamlet or Hamlet redux or anything like that. It’s a lot less Hamlet than The Lion King is, and The Lion King’s Hamletiness is probably overstated.

The Emoks live in trees and everything they have is made of wood, yet they start building a fire to cook Luke, Han, and Chewie. How is that supposed to work, exactly?

It looks like they built a large hearth out of rock. Not too difficult to keep insulated from whatever platform is supporting it.

On the most recent Slo Mo Guys video, they mentioned that the covers of the Naked Gun movies show full/unused bullets flying around. You can see the casing is still attached. I’m torn between that being on purpose and someone just using a stock picture of a bullet.

Perhaps because they look more, ahem, phallic that way?

You expect reality from a movie that lets OJ build a 40mm Bofors out of his Desert Eagle?

In the Star Trek (TOS) episode “The Corbomite Manuver” which I was rewatching for the 1,000 time last night, early in the show Spock criticizes Ensign Baily for raising his voice on the bridge and then later on Spock himself continually raises his voice as the ship’s radiation level rises. Do as I say not as I do according to the ancient Vulcan tradition.

I’ve been watching the UK version of Ghosts (I gave up hope that the final three seasons would make it to a US streaming service anytime soon and just bought them from Amazon). I just started season 4 last night, and I only just noticed that Thomas has a bullet wound in his abdomen and a large blood stain on his waistcoat, obviously from the duel he died in. I can’t believe I made it through three seasons without noticing it. I blame the fact that A) the dark color and pattern of the waistcoat tends to hide it, and B) The scenes are often dimly lit, as would be appropriate for a spooky old mansion.

I’m rewatching Bravest Warriors and this time I noticed that the characters Beth Tezuka and her father, Johnny Tezuka, are voiced by actual daughter and father Liliana Mumy and Bill Mumy.

Awwww!
