You have to open up the gatefold to see the entire ear.
Even though I know it’s an ear, the front cover always looked to me like an upside-down nose! This is the British cover, BTW; the ear is much less noticeable on the (purple-tinted)American cover.
Or in Japan. I’m watching the end of of The Last Samuri, where the cream of southern nobility make a last hopeless charge into the gatling-guns of the industrial north, and thinking "who would watch an American civil-war movie staring Tom Cruise and set in Japan? when the penny drops, and I realize – This is not a samurai move. This is an American civil war movie. Americans will watch it. —
As a children’s librarian, I’ve read Harold and the Purple Crayon often to the kids at storytime. (When I do an art-themed storytime, I’ll read the story, then show the cartoon adaptation of its sequel, Harold’s Fairy Tale.)
Only recently did I notice a couple of subtle puns in both stories. In the first, Harold, while sailing, “made land” (naturally, he drew it while still in his boat). At the end, he got into bed and “drew up the covers.”
In the sequel, after he drew the fairy-tale castle, he found that the portcullis was “drawn shut.”
It took saying the word “alienation” out loud for me to “get” the name of the TV show, Alien Nation. So, they’re like, aliens, and they feel alienated. That’s fucking brilliant. How did I not get that right away?

They referenced this in at least one episode. One of the humans made a comment about “Every Tom, Dick and Harry”, at which point Tom, Dick and Harry all suddenly started ostentatiously acting nonchalant.
That’s one fucked up ear. The top folds out, and is not connected to the head. And the ear is taller than the rest of the head.
Looks more like a turtle to me.

In Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, at the end, when Janet brings all the potential investors up to Jameson’s home, she gives both men phony names. The name she gave to Freddy was “Randy Bentwick.” Suddenly it hit me what she had done. She was punishing him for how he’d tried to get her in the sack to win a bet. She made him a mute and gave him a name that essentially means “horny brokedick.” I’d watched the movie umpteen times before I got that!
They missed an obvious joke by not naming Kristen Johnston’s character Ann.
Looks like a turtle or even a snail.
That’s just a rotated repost of the link in post 1562. As I said, that ear is fucked up. It’s taller than the head, and it’s disconnected at the top and sticks out like Dumbo’s ears.
And that doesn’t explain why there’s only an ear on one side.

If so, you’re not the only one. I can’t figure out what he’s on about, either.
What head? The ear fills up the entire picture.
The dark parts of the picture are the folds inside the ear. Until I looked at the link for the complete picture I kept trying to see the dark parts as the outline of the whole ear.
Now I see what Irishman is talking about. He’s seeing the purple interior of the ear as a rough silhouette of a head with a single enormous ear sticking out of it.
Or a turtle. 
Irishman: take 2 giant steps back from the monitor and look at it again. 
GAH :smack: I got trapped looking at the dark shadow on the lighter background as the “object” in question.
