SCOTUS found it for you. The least you can do is thank them!

Negative. A permit costs money - I do not need a paid for permit to exercise my right to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Now, you may acquiesce to the local governmental extortionists and pay for a permit, that’s your choice.

You, as an individual? Maybe not. As a large group? That’s a horse of a different color.

A permit needn’t cost money. If there is a charge, it’s for extra policing, clean-up or whatever is deemed necessary.

But, as I said, SCOTUS has already decided. You may disagree, but it is settled law.

They are probably right next to the restrictions on what arms I have the right to “keep and bear”.

I like to say that “The First Amendment does not give people the right to block streets and buildings any more than the Second Amendment gives them the right to automatic weapons with armor-piercing explosive-tipped ammunition.”

Just for attending…no way. Couldn’t they say they were researching the movement for a show?

As for the Fox firings…I don’t know; you tell me. I’d never make you read that much Rupert Murdoch…I’m not going to read that much George Soros.

Okay, the first reporter fired, [Lisa Simeone](http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iIGpztWAQLDY6GukQrUIwbBr4QXw?docId=b80af71be8a249c0a2c5c3386fbc72d8), did help with organizing. She’s not a news reporter, though - she hosts a classical music program.

[Caitlin Curin](http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blogpost/post/occupy-wall-street-costs-two-journalists-their-jobs/2011/10/28/gIQA4NN6PM_blog.html), the second NPR employee fired, did simply attend and was photographed holding a sign.

If you can’t handle the words, you can feel free to just look at the pictures on that link - they’re screenshots of Fox News shows. That shouldn’t hurt your head too much.

Regardless, the point is that NPR is so worried about avoiding conflict of interest that it fired a classical music host who was involved in OWS and a reporter who attended the protest. Meanwhile, Fox News had on-air personalities attending, speaking at and promoting Tea Party events and was advertising Tea Party events on their channel. As far as I know, Sean Hannity is still an employee of Fox and Glenn Beck got fired for his falling ratings instead of his involvement with the Tea Party.

I did not see that in the constitution. You are making that up for convenience of a bad argument. The constitution says people have a right of grievance and petition including the right of Assembly. The right to petition for redress and assembly is an attribute of citizenship and is guaranteed by the government of the United States.

I’d be worried too if I took taxpayer money.

I’d also be worried if the Tea Party was a bunch of takers, occupying places they don’t belong and rioting with the cops.

There is direct funding of NPR by taxes.

It’s not hard to understand people’s frustration when words like “Gloomy”, “Anguish”, and “Grinding” are on the front page of newspapers when describing the state of the economy for the past and next few years. Yet you also see graphs like “[Income Growth of Top 1% Over 30 Years Outpaced Rest of U.S.](http://s.wsj.net/public/resources/images/OB-QG980_cbo_E_20111025152346.jpg)”

Because we let them. We fell asleep and let the rich hire our politicians to do work for them. Of course the fact that about half the house members are millionaires, should also be a clue.
One of the jobs of citizens is to fight for their rights and their needs. We trusted the pols and they screwed us. We weren’t alert.

NPR is funded by corporate donors, station fees, educational interests, grants and fund raisers. There is a 2 percent sliver of government funding.
Note it is a non profit organization. It does not sell advertising.
