Near my house, on the frontage property of a strip shopping center is a building with 2 store fronts. Currently occupying the left side is a Jewish Temple. On the right is a BBQ pork restaurant. 😕:eek: ---

When I was in Dubuque, I used to drive by a strip mall where they had a Bike Shack, a Quilt Shack, a Mattress Shack, and a Verizon Wireless store where they obviously have no sense of humor. ---

I went to college in a very small town that had a McDonald’s on its outskirts. There was a fenced cattle pasture right next to the edge of the McDonald’s property, and it was not at all unusual to see beef on the hoof just a few feet away as one pulled through the drive-through. ---

Up in New Rochelle, Mr. & Mrs. Mariano Rivera recently reopened their _Refugio de Esperanza_, a Pentecostal congregation, in a century old, official historical landmark, originally Presbyterian church. Directly across the street is _El Faro ApostĂłlico de New Rochelle_, another Pentecostal congregation, whose home is a storefront church. ---

I would almost accuse this of being an edited photo except that I live a mile from a shopping center with a very similar mix. Catholic bookstore, check. Mexican food and pizza, check. Bar, check (with a casino to boot). Indoor gun range, check. The smoke shop and bail bonds are across the street, though. There’s also another bar across the street and a bilingual church too. By the way, we can tell this isn’t from Washington state because there’s nowhere to buy fancy, sugared, coffee-flavored milk. ---

The photo is real but a few years old so some of the businesses aren’t the same now. It was taken at a strip mall in Santee, California near San Diego. ---

Paso Robles, Ca. has, I think, very small Jewish and Muslim populations. Last I looked (about 10 years ago), the Jewish and Muslim congregations shared a smallish nondescript-looking space in a smallish shopping center for their temple/mosque. ---

There’s a odd place close to me. Building supplies and beauty parlour. Probably a husband and wife team - each gets half the building, but you know what building supplies places look like - piles of sand and stone and stacks of metal … with ladies popping in to get their nails done! ---

Sun Belt cities often have VERY lax zoning laws, so it’s not unusual to see all kinds of odd juxtapositions. In many Texas cities, you’ll find churches not far from strip clubs. Nowadays, porn is mostly sold online, but I used to see strip malls containing both Christian book stores and porn dealers, both kids’ clothing stores and naughty lingerie shops. ---

On US-521, just over the state line in South Carolina a fireworks superstore shares the parking lot with a huge discount liquor store.
