Well, it’s not nearly as good as some of the previous entries but Christopher Walken plays a teacher in *The Dead Zone * who sets his students the task of reading Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Many years later of course going to star as the headless horseman in an adaptation of this work.
Not exactly a coincidence, but amazing: John Cazale only acted in five movies in his career and all five were nominated for the best picture Oscar.
Tommy Lee Jones and Al Gore were roommates at Harvard, neither studying anything film-related. Jones is now an Oscar-winning actor and Gore acted in an Oscar-winning documentary.

John Turturro is of Italian descent, and plays an Arab (Palestinian) in that movie.

Hmmm. More John Turturro stuff. I recently watched a movie he wrote and directed, Romance and Cigarettes and started a thread about the movie here.
In the movie, John directs Aida Turturro, who I assume is related to him. Also in the movie, is James Gandolfini who on The Sopranos played Aida Turturro’s brother.
A bit part in the movie (little boy on tricycle) was played by Diego Turturro (John’s son) and another part in the movie (choir singer) was played by Katherine Turturro, who I assume is related to John as well.

In 2003 Hugh Laurie played a quirky, crabby doctor with a wife and 3 kids in a British series called Fortysomething. His last name in the series is a dictionary word (“Slippery”).
In 2004 Hugh Laurie played (and continues to play) a quirky, crabby doctor with a female boss and 3 underlings in an American series. His last name in the series is a dictionary word (“House”). 'Cept now he has an American accent.
