it doesn’t really. The male on top in that position is supporting most of his weight with extremities if he’s at all interested in the well being and pleasure of his partner (or is completely selfish and simply wants repeat business or referral. :D) Hips are not necessarily in contact for good chunks of the motion and aren’t a major source of support.

Are we allowed to offer suggested titles? How about “Further questions about sexual intercourse and pelvic thrusting, with special attention paid to acrobatic maneuvers before, during and after coitus. Side discussion on the risks of penile fracture, both in humans and other mammals.”

> In many cases (most of those that I personally have had experience with), the man’s body does not press down on and immobilize the woman’s body. The man has these things called “elbows” that may be used to minimize the pressure. And, anyway, the part of the woman’s body that does move moves in a way that is typically not impeded by the weight of the man – in fact, pelvic rocking by a woman in the missionary position can theoretically lead to the same kind of damage to the penis as woman-on-top action.

If you read the Wikipedia article on penile fracture, then it is actually cited that the most common causes of it are vaginal intercourse and aggressive masturbation. Of vaginal intercourse, women-on-top positions pose the greatest risk, while the missionary position poses the least risk. The missionary position may not be ideal, if the woman has an intact hymen, and the tearing or stretching of the hymen may cause pain. Add in the extra weight, and the woman would be locked into that position. Eh… Who says sex must be easy?

> The thing to understand is that conception in humans is a comparatively low-frequency event. Estrous-cycle animals typically conceive in a single mating because their reproductive systems are built to facilitate that. Humans (and, I think, some other animals) have a best-case 20% chance of viable conception from sex, so they have to do it repeatedly in order to reproduce. Hence, both partners usually need to be fairly keen to participate, which one big reason we like sex so much.

Human estrus actually exists. It’s just that women are largely unaware of it. I once heard a lecture that mentioned the lack of knowledge of one’s own estrus and how that would lead women to appear like they are in estrus ALL the time. A female dog, a bitch, that is in estrus is called “in heat”, and it looks crazy. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is how the word “bitch” loosely means “crazy woman”.

IIRC, the number for successful fertilization is much higher than 20%. Take a look at unprotected sex rates, and you’ll see why. Even if a couple has 20% chance of fertilization, then they probably would have to have sex every night. The woman may not know that she is pregnant up to the third month of pregnancy, so if such a woman is trying for pregnancy, she must abstain from alcohol, stay fit, eat healthy, and have sex every night to make sure the conditions are ideal for fetal development.

> I think that discussion was referring to manual sex, not vaginal sex. During vaginal sex in the missionary sex position, the female does not move, because the man’s weight would press against the woman’s body. Earlier in this thread, I have mentioned the female pelvic thrust, so you can tell I did not forget what you said in the other thread. Anyway, since there is a female pelvic thrust, it must only occur during manual sex or by manual stimulation of the genitals. During vaginal sex in the missionary position, the man’s weight would have prevented such movement or rendered such movement, if it did occur, negligible.

:smack:

You know what I hate about watermelons? They’re so heavy that their own weight squeezes all of the water out and so they’re all rubbery and dry like an old sponge.

And it’s a fact that clouds are heavier than a 747 airplane. So if a cloud was over you there should be a change in air pressure, and that would make your ears pop.

I don’t what to say man. If you’re going to continue extrapolating wrong from wrong, there’s not a lot we can do to help.

You’re talking to a bunch of people who have had sex, and we’re telling you _the woman is not locked into that position_. We don’t need to hypothesize – we’ve done it. There’s no “the woman would be…” – we know that she’s not, because we’ve done it. Most of the time, both partners in missionary-position sex are thrusting back at each other, and the woman is not bearing the bodyweight of the man.

I have a feeling that the members here are focused on recreational intercourse, while I am mainly focused on procreational intercourse. Somehow, there is a close association between intercourse and pleasure that many people find difficult to separate. The close association and the uncertainty of fertilization make me think that perhaps it’s best to not think about sex as a means to reproduce, but sex as a means to have fun in order to reproduce.

Since recreational sex is often portrayed to involve sexual attraction, and many marriages may be arranged or set up by parents who really analyze the partners’ characteristics and compatibility, and the fact that gays and lesbians can produce babies, sexual attraction in traditional arranged marriages or semi-arranged marriages is not emphasized that much. Commitment is far more important. This suggests that sexual attraction and therefore recreational sex are not necessary at all in reproduction. Yet, sexual pleasure really is intertwined with sex, making the idea of a person who is not sexually attracted to his or her marriage partner complex. I think sex is more complex than it seems. I find it difficult to imagine why one would engage in sex for pleasure alone, if he or she is not attracted to the partner. It’d make more sense to have sex to reproduce to continue the family line.

> The missionary position may not be ideal, if the woman has an intact hymen, and the tearing or stretching of the hymen may cause pain.

The hymen is vestigial, it tears _once_. After it tears, it shrivels, atrophies, and becomes not a concern. After that point, the moment of insertion becomes very enjoyable for the woman due to the clittoral body that closely surrounds the vaginal orifice – in fact, it is fun to … ahem, nevermind about that.

I believe it was Kinsey’s wife who had difficulty with her hymen (at least, that seemed to be what was being hinted at in the movie). To deal with such a problem, it is possible to tear the hymen and let it heal in advance of having sex, so that the woman can have a painless deflowering. Some men get a particular thrill from tearing the hymen with their penis, but I kind of think causing ones partner a lot of initial pain is mostly not desirable (at least, until both decide how much pain they, umm, again, nevermind about that.

> [@](#):
>
> Add in the extra weight, and the woman would be locked into that position. Eh… Who says sex must be easy?

When a man climbs on top of a woman, she usually wants him to and usually does not feel locked in. Often, the initial insertion calls for a little guidance on her part, unless she is already very wet from, umm, linguistics or other foreplay that arouses her a great deal. More importantly, when you consider the thrusting activity, most women have enough mobility even underneath a man that she can move to eject his penis in the back-stroke, if she feels so inclined. In addition, both partners have these “mouth” things which they can and do use to say these “word” things to each other, like “_that doesn’t feel very good_.”

> [@](#):
>
> IIRC, the number for successful fertilization is much higher than 20%.

Well, I did not say “fertilization”, I said, “viable conception”. Actual fertilization occurs rather often, but many of those zygotes either fail to implant or simply expire some while after implantation. It has been suggested that, for many women, what seems to be a difficult period is very likely an early miscarriage. Statistically, the average _viable conception_ rate for unprotected sex, meaning a pregnancy progressing beyond the second trimester, is around one in five. Hence, sex must be a social activity, because we have to do it a fair bit to get babies.
