To continue the Screenwriting theme:
Bill Lancaster, son of Burt, wrote The Bad News Bears and The Thing (Carpenter version).
And having read a draft of Serling’s solo script of POTA as well as the final which is mostly Michael Wilson’s work, except for the Statue of Liberty ending, and the archaeological dig site concept, Serling’s work is either gone from the script or much improved on. I bow to the man for The Twilight Zone, but his POTA is overlong, slow as the SDMB server 🙂 and all talk, IMHO.

He’s “Unlucky Bastard,” and he’s played by David Koepp, who wrote the screenplay.
While we’re on the subject of _The Lost World_, take a look at the movie ads inside the Blockbuster the bus crashes into. They’re for fictional movies starring big stars in unexpected roles- Robin Williams in _Jack and the Behnstacks_ (a sequel, perhaps?), Tom Hanks as a surfer in _Tsunami Sunrise_, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as King Lear.

Very obscure and highly trivial:
As was the style of 'Nam soldiers to have names, phrases or other things written on their helmets, Johnny Depp’s character Pvt. Lerner in “Platoon” had the name “Sherilyn” written on his.
This was for Sherilyn Fenn, Depp’s girlfriend at the time, who is probably best known as Audrey from “Twin Peaks,” the girl who tied a cherry stem into a knot with her tongue.

The island wall that was used in _King Kong_ was burned as part of the burning of Atlanta sequence in _Gone With The Wind_.
The “German” planes used in the _Battle of Britain_ movie were supplied by the Spanish Air Force (IIRC the Me-109 were still used as trainers, while the He-111 were used as transports IRL).
