[I’m offended.](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=147829) I’m offended when people assume that all Germans are NAZI. I’m offended by NAZI jokes. I’m offended by the term Soup NAZI. I’m offended when people call me JESSIE instead of Jessica. I’m offended when people call me ‘Hon’ when I barely know them. I’m offended by people who claim someone was _‘raped’_ when they missed a catch in a football game. I’m offended when people automatically attach the word FREAK after the word BONDAGE. I’m offended by people who say all Christians are hateful. I’m offended when someone calls me a ‘fat fucking cunt’ at a Bears game. I’m offended when the center of the Bowling Green State University Soccer team says I should either PUT OUT or LOSE TWENTY POUNDS. I’m offended when people say being a housewife is settling or ‘old fashioned’. I’m offended by people who think all pro-lifers are ‘retarded’. And while we’re at it, I’m offended when people use retarded as an insult. I’m offended when my friend says “butt slamming the christ child”. But you know what? That’s just me. And I realize that my life, and my experiences with these things colors how I view them. My experience with rape and the word cunt and Soccer players is different from yours. I realize that the **majority** of people probably don’t have an issue with it. I understand that a great many millions of people have trouble with the word Nigger or Kike, which are insults at their very core, so I’m careful not to use it. However, many people may not have a problem with using ‘rape’ to describe missed shots in basket ball so you know what? I’M JUST GOING TO GO AHEAD AND ASSUME THAT (contrary to what some people may think I think) **I AM NOT THE CENTER OF EVERYONE’S UNIVERSE** , NOR ARE MY PARTICULAR QUIRKS AND SENSIBILITIES, AND THAT 59 TIMES OUT OF 60, THEY AREN’T SAYING IT TO OFFEND ME. And then, THEN, I MOVE ON. ---

I try and remind myself of two things every day… 1.) The Golden Rule, and 2.) not everybody that does something that offends me actually intended to do so. I think it’s where the whole “count to ten before reacting” thing came from. Personally, I admire someone that can practice a fair amount of restraint and am myself striving toward that goal as well. It offends me when someone asks for an opinion and then jumps you on all fours when you give an opinion that isn’t what they want to hear. Why ask to begin with if you aren’t gonna listen? If you already have your mind made up, then someone else’s opinion isn’t gonna matter and why waste my precious typing time? I could be changing the course of the world or at least the course of someone else’s life instead of wasting it on someone who isn’t gonna listen in the first place and only wanted to see his/her name on a thread. I’m offended that every time I open a box of cereal that bag in the box always splits all the way down and then the cereal goes stale. What were these people thinking when they packaged this junk?
