Well that is a terrible thing to say to someone, but why did you feel it necessary to identify him as a soccer player? I play soccer. Does that mean I’m an insensitive asshat that thinks nothing about making comments about a person’s weight? No, of course not. I am honestly offended that you decided to identify that jerk as a soccer player. Why not just identify him as “some guy”, or “wearer of blue jeans”, or “carbon-based life form”? You rant about unintentional offenses and in the course of doing so, _unintentionally offend!_ That said, I will try to remember that you didn’t mean to be offensive to all soccer players and move on. ---

WOOSH BOMBZ WOOSH. The whole point of the OP was that SOME things OFFEND some people that don’t OFFEND others, based solely on past personal experience, so we should let it go. ---

**Bomzaway:** it was a blind date. Chances are she didn’t fall all over herself learning every detail of his private life after the date was over; once she had the c.v. of “guy, soccer, jerk,” that pretty much covered it. Oh, and I think the idea was that you should lose the weight if you _didn’t_ want to live the life of a loose-lipped whore, so you’d at least be fun for him to look at. ---

grienspace, it means that yes, those things offend me, but I’m not going to march out onto a public message board and demand that they aren’t talked about, or those words not used. I may be offended when someone calls someone a cunt, but I’m not going to say “don’t use it, that offends me”. I just don’t assume that everyone’s out to offend me. It’s just words. And whether a word is bothersome to me or not doesn’t mean I can dictate to others whether they can use it or not. Frankly, I hate the word SLIT, in any form…but that doesn’t mean I’m going to ask everyone to stop saying it. Now that I think of it, soccer players themselves don’t offend me, but that’s the only way I knew him. “You wanna date a soccer player?” “Sure,” “He’s a hot soccer player”. “Hi, I’m on the soccer team, take your pants off.” Honestly, I don’t even remember his name. 😃 I graduated from BG in '94 belladonna! Going back for Myle’s pizza at Christmas. ---
