It’s weird now reflecting upon my office environment 20 years ago at an English-language weekly in Budapest. It was all so incestuous. I was dating the receptionist; the managing editor (eventually ed-in-chief) was dating an ad sales woman; a couple of the reporters were dating ad sales people, too. (Oddly, I can’t remember any reporter-reporter pairings.) It’s almost surprising that none of the parties we’ve had didn’t turn into full sex orgies. We did almost have an office-wide strip poker session at my place, but I put the kibbosh to that. (In retrospect, was that really a bad idea? Should’ve done it at least for the story, right? I sometimes regret being Buzz Killington there.) Like I said, above, oh to be in my 20s again. ---
