I suspect the answer to what happened to Ivan ties in to who made the arrow, and why they gave it to Mistress. They certainly never expected her apprentice to be the one to activate it, so Ivan may have inadvertently foiled an assassination plot - which may be how he eventually returns to her good graces. ---

I don’t think Mistress necessarily knew that Ivan had done five things wrong, or four, or six. She might’ve just been giving him the opportunity to incriminate himself before she had him play human pincushion. ---

So but what is with the whole pillow over the face thing? Are we to believe he was just trying to finish Ivan off so that he (Ivan) was in a state suitable to be mourned over by the Ambassador, who clearly wanted to engage in some melodramatic grief? Or does the Ambassador want Ivan dead for some reason? ---
