Belated, but I just got the reference in the last panel of the [current strip](http://www.oglaf.com/deincarnation/5/). It refers back to [this strip](http://www.oglaf.com/fireofgod/2/). I [thought](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=14992255&postcount=1308) it would make more sense when I went back through it afterwards. ---

They weren’t killed in their _own_ monastery/convent/temple/whatever the residence of the Brothers of Happenstance is called. They were fake-deathed there and their “corpses” were left _in situ_ (like the one that Grier examined) while the monks themselves were hauled off to the Temple of the Fungod for ritual sacrifice. Oh, and I just want to say I think this was the best story arc yet. Still wondering what’s happened to Ivan, but the rest of the cast are keeping me plenty entertained while I wait to find out. ---

There’s no central story or central character to the strip. Cooper just picks up and drops characters for individual strips and stories with no overall master plot. ---

Sure, I didn’t mean to imply otherwise. But Ivan is certainly one of the major characters, and I’m waiting to find out what’s happened to him. Of course, there’s no official guarantee that he’ll ever be seen again, but I bet he will. ---
