I don’t remember any Canaries, but Mark’s Very Extravagant Mother Just Sent Us Ninety Parakeets was Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto when I was growing up.

I learned the second half as “red to black, venom lack.”

And this is kind of stupid, but it worked for me: I learned the Indian music scale (_sa, re, ga, ma, pa, dha, ni_) by thinking “Sorry, grandma, pardon me.”
