Oh, For Og's Sake! Disco on PBS!

I caught part of this show last night flipping channels.

After several views of the audience “dancing,” I can honestly say,

I’m ashamed of being a middle aged white guy.

Mine still shows it, too…BUT ONLY DURING PLEDGES!!! Now, I ask you: what value to their pledge drive is a show that is 15 years old and which they have shown a billion and a half times? Apparently some, but not enough for WTTW to pay people to host it. Instead they show PRE-RECORDED PLEDGE BREAKS FROM TWO YEARS AGO!

Dear, next time they show the disco program–and they WILL show it again–note that the background and people are different from those you normally see during pledge drives. THOSE PLEDGE BREAKS ARE PRE-RECORDED AND HAPPENED IN PITTSBURG! So, even if they aren’t lying when they say the phones are ringing that doesn’t mean they are ringing in YOUR town AT THAT MOMENT.

Richard Simmons and Leo Sayer were separated at birth.

I was sorta kinda maybe wanting to see the show just to remind myself of how truly awful the music was because I have no clear recollection of it.

I thought it was was because in the 70’s I was a teenager more interested in partying and dancing but now I realize those memories are missing for a reason. That Og for selective amnesia.

That said, I like the Roy Orbison special very much. He was a great performer and nobody can growl like him. The rest of the performers were great too, especially Elvis Costello. That man is everywhere, playing guitar, keyboards, harmonica, singing backup. He’s like the wind.

We call them begathons here too. My hubby and I just walk around sobbing “Pleeeaaaassse, send us money” the whole time they’re on.

Make that **thank **Og for selective amnesia.

BTW, I know Dan Penn whom Elvis Costello says was a very big influence on him.

Hell, even KISS had a disco song.

As did:

Paul McCartney - “Goodnight Tonight”
ELO - Discovery aka “Disco-very”
Rolling Stones: “Miss You”
ABBA: “Voulez-vous”
