Your disingenuous attempts to accuse me of lying without saying so are pointless. If someone wants to register there and look they can, its free. And even if I _was_ lying, what does it _matter?_ Nothing said on a message board compares to, say, the _actual_ atrocities of people like Stalin, so what does that even prove? ---

You know, the extremist fringe ninnies whose views include the examples that Der\_Trihs gave, like assigning all jobs by lottery regardless of expertise or knowledge, and rooting for a nuclear war in the expectation that it would be followed by a communist utopia. No, there is not in fact any significant institutional presence in American media, academia, or city/state governments where that kind of far-leftist extremists have “disproportionate influence”, or any non-negligible influence at all. As usual, octopus is trying to dishonestly conflate mainstream progressives with extremist far-leftists, by disregarding and obscuring the inconvenient fact that the former don’t actually agree with the latter. ---

Yeah. For an (anecdotal) IRL example, I know a self-identified conservative who unironically asserts, and AFAIK sincerely believes, that there’s no difference between liberals and communists. It’s like a monoglot English speaker believing that, say, Swahili and Italian are the same language, because both of them aren’t English. ---

I look in on a right-wing message board from time to time, and among some posters there, anybody who is not Trumpist/conservative/Republican is a Marxist Socialist Communist. Of course, they have no definitions for those terms, or those claims, as evidenced by their subsequent remarks. They really don’t know what “socialism” means by the Marxian definition (the workers own the means of production), or what “communism” means (after socialism, the state, i.e government, has withered away, because it is no longer necessary). They really don’t know what to do with “Marxist,” but they hate it anyway and use it as an insult often. In the end, regardless of the experiment in the USSR, and the ongoing situation in Cuba and North Korea, it all boils down to “stuff I don’t like.” “Obamacare? It’s socialist; it’s a foothold of socialized medicine, giving me fewer choices. Amtrak? I hate it; it’s socialist, run by the government. Kamala? Marxist all the way.” Weird, though, how they never have a problem with government-run fire and police departments. ---

See also the term “unconstitutional”, which also is used to mean “stuff I don’t like”. On occasion I’ve seen right-wingers arguing that things that are literally in the Constitution are unconstitutional. Ironically, while certain liberals used to use the term “fascist” to mean anyone to the right of them, we are now in a situation where the Republican Party are literally working to implement fascism. ---

I took a teenage relative blueberry picking. I told her to leave the berries on the lower branches for the littler kids who couldn’t reach up high. She called me a commie. Collecting food for the food pantry? Commie. NPR on the radio? Commie. Complaining about medical surprise billing? Commie. Asking her to try a small portion of my cooking before loading up her plate and then tossing it after the first bite? Commie. Southwest Airlines canceling her flight due to Cloudstrike issue? Commie. Logic on that last one is tortured, but suffice it to say it involves “DEI” and “woke”. ---

(Not really, mom wasn’t a pincher but I like that phrase). I was raised in the ‘clean plate club’, but we were allowed to serve ourselves. If you took, you were eating it. The only caveat was that if she cooked it, you were at least trying it, so had to take a some and eat it. For vegetables, ‘some’ was eventually defined as three - one pea obviously being not enough and two is ‘a couple’. The caveat to the caveat was that, like me, my dad hated (orange/butternut) squash. Since he didn’t have to eat any, neither did I. ---

In order to keep the peace with my aged mother, I can’t. My mother has enough problems without dragging her into arguments between her children, nieces and nephews. In our culture family harmony trumps all, even if it means sucking it up when you have racist children-in-law who think you are less of a human because you’re brown skinned. ---
