You know, before I ever clicked on the link, and even being fully aware of today’s date, my first thought was that it could very well be true, but buried under the urgent breaking news that Terri Schiavo is still dead, her families are still at each other’s throats, the pope is still dying, and Jacko is still a freak.

_sigh_

And in other astronomical news, [Lick observatory](http://mthamilton.ucolick.org/hamcam/)’s mountain top site will be draped in cloth to prevent light pollution affecting the observatory’s sky viewing.

> [@](#):

> University of California’s Lick Observatory today announced a bold new initiative designed to mitigate the effects of light pollution from South Bay cities, which researchers say impede their telescopic views of the heavens. According to sources at the observatory, the project – dubbed the “Diablo Curtain” for its location in the southern Diablo Range – will block a “non-trivial” share of the light which now suffuses the night sky. “This is the greatest boon to Califonia astronomy since Tetris and microwaveable pizza” gushed one observer who asked to remain anonymous.

The link above is for the observatory’s webcam, which will probably revert to non-april fool’s material sometime tonight.
