Walking the dogs I look behind and Clarence is trailing us.
I promise I wasn’t dropping breadcrumbs,
The Chihuahuas took off after Betsy the Beagle.
So me and Bayliss stopped and sat on a log. Listening to Betsy baying, I heard scratching noise, behind us. Clarence was digging a hole and laid in the dirt of it.
This is so weird.

That 'possum ain’t stupid.
While possums are omnivores, they tend to eat seeds and probably don’t recognize bread as food. Up here in deer tick country, we cheer them on, “Go, eat mor tiks!”
Clarence likes bread. Especially crusts. His favorite brand is Sara Lee.
We bought 2 loaves and it was just nasty. So Clarence ate plenty of it.
He ate potatoe peelings tonight.
Hope I can track down this poor dog’s owners.

Bayliss the tailess decided Clarences tail was a jab at his chopped off tail (no, I didn’t cut his tail off, he came that way)
Clarence was making his way down the 8steps of the deck, slooooooowwwly. And Bayliss decided he would borrow Clarence’s tail.
As his tail is attached, Clarence frowned upon this. It seems Clarence can move fast, when he’s motivated.
Now I’ve seen some ugly things in my life. But a tail bitten 'possum is not a pretty sight. And he continued to hiss for a long time. Baring that beautiful 'possum smile.
He made dang sure everyone learned about his opposition to giving up his tail.
Bayliss was embarrassed and ashamed of his faux pas.
And Clarence is under the deck pouting.
And if you are concerned Clarence is rabid, because ‘just ain’t actin’ ‘right’…
Son-of-a-wrek darted him with a rabies shot.
The Dr. Google said it would be ok, they vaccinate all 'possums in captivity (Zoos and such)
I told Son we may have to give him a Valium after the tail bite.
He said, and I quote “that 'possum ain’t right”
Too bad you didn’t get pics of the event. But in any case, that reminds me that more pictures of Bayliss are wanted, either here or in Pet Pictures. Bayliss is a Good Boy and deserves more coverage!
As for Clarence, I might have more affection for him if possums didn’t look like giant rats. How do the cats feel about him?
I live in L.A., and we have a ton of opposums. I tolerate them because of their usually mild personalities , and they eat cockroaches!
One woman I was talking to once while walking the dogs (she lived in an apartment building about a block away), and she had an opposum who regularly came through her doggy door to get a drink and any snacks he/she could find.
I’m getting better at posting pix. I will do it.
The cats are not concerned unless it comes in the house.
They have too many people and pets to worry about indoors.
