It is available at the big box bookstores here in Chicago right now. I just can’t justify $25 right now.
Yikes! You guys are making me ashamed of my spendthrift ways. Not only did I buy * The Thief of Time* in hardback, but I also bought the new DVD release of The Mummy and * This is Spinal Tap*, plus a couple of hardback Wodehouse from the bargain rack at Borders.
Check this out:
Woohoo!
I’m reading Thief of Time now, (I should be seeing patients, but t’ellwiddem!). He just gets deeper and deeper, and funnier and funnier. And I just finished The Bromeliad last week, had to order the english edition to finally get my hands on a copy! Glad to see it’s gonna be a movie. Hope they don’t slaughter it. But it’s true, the sooner I finish, the sooner it’s over, the longer wait until the next book.
Anyone out there read Strata, his proto-discworld book?
As a fellow Stateside doper, I sympathise.
T*The Fifth Elephant* came out in paperback (in the UK) about five months ago; that’s when I ordered it from Amazon UK, IIRC.
The Truth has been in hardcover for about nine months; it should be in paperback Any Day Now, but still nothing so far. Grrrrrrrr…
Theft of Time was just released in hardcover. I suspect the paperback won’t be out until next year, at the earliest. If you’re waiting for an American paperback release, I don’t know how long it’ll take – the US publisher is getting much better at getting up to speed, but I think we’re a few months behind the UK releases.
(I feel bad that I’m buying the UK releases, because if I get the US ones, that will show there’s American demand for Pratchett. But the UK paperbacks have those nifty covers…)
The indications are that the character is fairly major – while not at the Rincewind or Vimes level, certainly someone we’ve seen before. I think I know who it is, simply because I know the title of the novel due out after Theft of Time…
What? No more meat-sausage-inna-bun jokes? Heretic!
