Zepfest: well, I’ve only been to one and that was to humor my fiance. It was well before I had much, if any, appreciation for Zep. The fests tend to be held various places but this was in Cleveland to coincide with a display of photos from some Zep tours at the Hall of Fame. It had various social events, an expo where you could buy all kinds of stuff, a tribute band concert, etc. And a whole lotta zep fans.
Actually, there is one “Page” that really does do a decent job of singing a Zep tune. Phish occasionally does a cover of “Misty Mountain Hop”. Page McConnell, who plays keyboard, sings and sounds pretty damn good. But you’re right, no one will ever beat Plant.
Since I am not a big fan of a lot of today’s “rock” I rarely get to hear people butchering up Zep.
Our local rock station sucks. Claim to have all the best in new rock and throw in AC/DC, Van Halen etc…all stuff we can get on the two classic rock stations here so I pretty much stay away from it.
I am purist when it comes to Zep.
I am a huge Zep fan and the Page/Black Crowes collaboration is terrific. The rough raw edge of Chris Robinson’s voice is
reminiscent of Plant’s vocals back in the day.
Now, Puff Daddy rapping over “Kashmir”…{shudder}
Oh, yes it will, and oh yes they did, and a thing of beauty it was. First time I ever actually enjoyed that damn vacuum cleaner bit, too. My dream though, is for Phish to play Boston's *Boston* in it's entirity. Trey probably couldn't handle the vocals, but Page might be able to hit the highs.
Darnit, did I mention I can do a fat version of Black Dog!! It’s so cool! I use a voice pitch shifter and it sounds like “alvin and the chipmunks” singing the song with an extremly heavy guitar sounds. Trust me it’s da coolest shit, and will make you die laughing! lol!
I should point out that the Phish show I mentioned above was not at Polaris, but at Deer Creek. Last week is really running together at this point.
Sugaree–I agree, it did kick ass. I’ve been pushing for Blood Sugar Sex Magik for the Halloween album for a few years now, but since they’re not doing one this year I guess I’ll have to wait.
I was at Camp Timberho, by the way.

How about something we can really agree to hate.
If I hear that felching hamster dance song one more time I am going to blow a blood vessel.
I much prefer Hamster Blast found at: http://www.assassins.com/
You can also blow up, mutilate, microwave, or crash quite a few of your other favourite celebs.
Bad Zeppelin covers? Bah. None of you have experienced the pain that was The Song Retains the Name- it contained an awful rockabilly rendition of Rock And Roll as well as a rap version of Black Dog.
The worst cover ever made bar none has to be that version of “Ballroom Blitz” hacked out by that Asian bim for the first Wayne’s World flick. It made the members of Sweet turn over in their graves, and I don’t think they were dead yet.
Yer pal,
Satan
TIME ELAPSED SINCE I QUIT SMOKING:
Three months, one week, four days, 9 hours, 24 minutes and 31 seconds.
4095 cigarettes not smoked, saving $511.96.
Life saved: 2 weeks, 5 hours, 15 minutes.
(recklessly, nay, shamelessly hijacking) Lakeside, myself, Doctor J. Quite a pleasant walk to the show.
Yes, but at Lakeside you didn’t have the sweet, sweet aroma of swine.
Seriously, Timberho was great, but they should have had a better shuttle to the show. (We had to catch a van to Deadcreek and either walk or pay $3 for the Screaming Orange Mimi.)
Did you go on to Columbus? Did you manage to swim to safety? It was worth it, though–Friday’s show rocked my world.
Dr. J
No swine at all, only ratty tour dogs. We did have stagnant pond water to bathe in. Did not make it to Columbus (went to Kentucky instead!), but some friends did- they said they thought it was a little-anticlimatic. How much of the tour did you see?
I would like to mention that I really enjoy Stone Temple Pilots version of Dancing Days. I think that’s the name of the song.
Otherwise, all the no-talent monkey fuckers should leave other people’s music alone. Write your own crap!
I saw Nashville (Antioch), Deer Creek, and Columbus. I certainly wouldn’t call the Columbus shows anticlimactic–Friday’s second set was the best of the run, IMO. (My first Mike’s in my 13 shows, Sand->Lizards, great Bowie, Inlaw Josie Wales/Driver/Guyute encore.) None beats the Nashville set II, though, with Sam Bush, the Del McCoury Band, and Ricky Skaggs, and then Wynnona Judd.
Just to veer back on topic–the cover of “The Battle of Evermore” on the RB soundtrack was by the Lovemongers, who are, in fact, Heart. (There’s a difference, but I’m not sure what it is. Same two chicks, though.) I didn’t think it was that bad. Hootie and the Suckfish doing “Hey Hey What Can I Do”, on the other hand, was disturbing.

Anyone a U2 fan ::::ducks:::: looks around - whooosh thud!-owwww that hurt!!!
They have been follwed by their own “tribute” band who cover all their stuff - in reggae-
Their name - The Joshua Trio
Just thought you needed to know that.
I have a gun! Remain in your seats and no one will be harmed! Pilot, onward, toward Kabul!
ReservoirDog, I like the STP cover of “Dancing Days” also. Of course they had the good sense not to screw with it.
LouisB, ROFLMAO at your first post!
And as far as Madonna’s “American Pie”… <shudder>.
