Just be careful eating ice cream with pop rocks in it. You all know that Mikey died from eating pop rocks, right? Right? Or maybe he drank Mountain Dew and had his nads shrink up. I can never keep those things straight… ---

I agree with the “ewww”-sayers. Pop rocks do NOT go in ice cream. Matt is right, lovers of ice cream must make the pilgrimage to Ile St-Louis in Paris. Mmmmmmmmm… On your way, of course, to the True Mecca of All Ice Cream - Italy, birthplace of gelato. ::: drools ::: In the U.S., I generally don’t like any flavors with “weird” stuff, i.e., pop rocks. My fave B&J is Bovinity Divinity. It has little cows! Ha ha, what could be cooler? Dreamery brand ice cream is also excellent. ---

Ok…my favorite…and I know that you purists are going to be disgusted - Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie Low Fat Frozen Yogurt. I know it’s not ice cream and I know it’s low fat - but trust me, this is the guilty ice creamer’s fantasy - you’ll be glad it’s low fat once you’ve finished off the entire pint in one sitting - it’ s that good, I promise. That’s it - gotta go to Safeway. ---

I suspect I have OCD about Ben and Jerry’s for the following reasons: 1: I must eat an entire gallon of Cherry Garcia on the anniversary of Jerry Garcia’s death. 2: I must consume said ice cream in under one hour (never a problem) 3: Hi, Opal! 4: I must try every new flavor of B&J’s as soon as I see it (a compulsion which once caused me to eat a pint of ice cream in the vestibule of my church) 5: I must suck all the creamy goodness off of each pop rock before eating the pop rock and moving on to the next creamy glob of chocolate encrusted poprock. Well, I could go on but it would just eventually lead to my incarceration. Yes, I like this flavor very much. Hope they can make enough. I intend to devote this summer to developing a new eating disorder specifically around this frozen delight. b. ---

Lord help us if the marketing sharks and ad agency demons discover how to infiltrate the SMDB. As it happens, I was charged with doing the grocery shopping on the way home from work. Just before leaving work I found this thread, and so… Yes, once I picked up all the items on my wife’s list, I headed for the freezer department, only to discover that the Fred Meyer store I patronize (a Northwest chain with a long history, recently merged with Kroger’s) had bulked up the B&J share of the freezer case and the majority of the flavors mentioned here were in stock. I exercised great will power and kept it down to two, the Kaberry Kaboom and the Pistachio Pistachio. So it’s late at night (after 11 pacific daylight time) and I’m sitting in our little office at home with a bowl containing half of each. (Well, in proportion - it’s somewhat diminished now.) Ah, heaven. Pistachio is my all time favorite flavor and one of the rarest to find anywhere. Thanks for turning me on to it and the funky pop rocks one as well. By the way, I remember an old Elayne Boozler routine in which she talked about the writing on the side of a pint of Haagen Daz. “Serves four. [snort] Who ARE these people?” Amen ---

YWalker, Hee hee! Suffer! Just kidding. I’ll talk with her and see if I can muscle the recipe out of her. She might not be willing to give me the secret, though, since she’s consistently won the the homemade ice cream contest at her church (not a religious man myself, but I don’t mind attending on contest night!) for like, the last twenty years. 🙂 Seriously, there’s nothing available in the stores that even comes close to tasting as good as the homemade stuff.
